I guess you think negligent driving is not a big deal. I've been driving for nearly 30 years and have never plead guilty to negligent driving. He likely needed the lawyer to get the charges knocked down to keep his license.
Can't believe an insurance company would cover him and if they did I can't imagine it would be cheap.
You also forgot the speeding ticket in Arlington.

What do you guys make of the eye witness account listed under Washington Post Comments about this incidence. It's not really eye witness but more hearsay because it is repeated from the person behind the car stopped at intersection. It was one of the first comments made and it goes into great detail over the supposed order of events. Do you think it's real? It puts all blame on the victims.

As the daughter of a retired cop who is now a drivers ed teacher I would encourage you all to stress to yourself and your teens that if the speed limit is 45 -- double it and that is how fast you should assume every oncoming car is traveling. Because at the end of the day, if you turn out in front of them you will die and they may get a ticket. Is that what you want?!?!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think newer cars like the BMW involved in this will have data in the on=board computer that will determine how fast it was going before the crash, when/if the brakes were applied and speed at impact. Hopefully investigators will be able to determine if excessive speed was a factor.

Because posters have chosen to include the BMW driver's name here, this thread will come up in future Google searches for his name (unless I remove the thread which I hope to avoid doing). It is unfair to him to create a damaging electronic record when he has not been determined to have done anything wrong in this case.

It's true electric vehicles have slow-pickup from a complete stop. This could have been a confluence of different factors, e.g. relatively slow turn combined with speed of oncoming driver. If the kid was driving recklessly, there should be witnesses along the way.
