That was a particularly good movie with spectacular performances from Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio (before he was a superstar).

I'm always amazed when I read anything about Leonardo DiCaprio's life and body of work, and this movie is not mentioned. It was the first thing I ever saw him in, had no idea who he was, and I was blown away. Also, Johnny Depp, who I generally can't stand, did a great job in this movie.

It was very good.

Breaker Morant--Australian, Boer war

Wadjda--Saudi, young girl covets bicycle despite cultural strictures

Play it as it Lays--Tuesday Weld (yum!) in movie version of Joan Didion book

Caught this movie randomly on cable. Would definitely recommend it

You wouldn't believe how often I think of the movie Defending Your Life, particular the scenes where Albert Brooks passes up the opportunity to invest in his friends small tech company that turns out to be huge, and the scene where Meryl Streep can eat anything she wants and does, because she's in pergatory and can't gain weight. That last one has always been a fantasy of mine!

Also who can resist a young James Spader sexing it up with Susan Sarandon.

I LOVED thos movie as a teenager! Very endearing. Also, another vote for Kiss, kiss bang bang. And would like to recommend-
-Cinema Paradiso (I cry EVERY single time I watch that ending)
- A history of violence
- Finding Forester (although I am sure many people have seen that one)
- painted veil

Ugh. Someone else told me this was good...and I thought it was amazingly boring.

I love Defending Your Life. I can picture those scenes, too!

Me, too. I also picture the scene where they're watching her run back into the burning house to save the cat.

Mother with Albert Brooks and Debbie Reynolds is another underrated movie.

I'm surprised Sicario didn't get more Oscar love this year.

If you love movies about forgotten corners of America with a strong sense of place, this is one of them.
