More than us which I liked. The interview was done by a teacher in a subject that my child loves and they apparently enjoyed talking to each other, because my DC came out of the interview very excited by the school and DC was admitted. I liked the parent essay because it gave me a chance to explain my child's strengths and use examples. The interviewer gave me positive feedback which I appreciated. We are not well connected or rich yet we felt Sidwell really appreciated our family and child.

Interesting to read the posts about GDS and Sidwell admissions. We applied to both years ago, and it sounds like not much has changed!

I think in most of the cases you just see what you want to see. I can believe LMS admission folks at GDS were "smugs" during the admission process. Holton: Our experience of the process as parents was fine. We found the admissions staff very helpful and courteous throughout. But there are two things that concern me. One, I think it would be really great if girls applying for 3rd grade could visit on a day when school is in session so that they can get a better feel for the place. I got the impression from DD that she did not really get that from the group visit. The second, I get the sense that they put too much emphasis on the ERB test. A lot of kids at this age have never taken a timed test before, so it seems to put an awful lot of pressure on the girls and may not really give them their best chance to shine.

All using admissions portals - put pressure on software companies to make it easier to edit applications. On too many it was too easy to "submit" something and then be unable to change it, such as a phone number or address. Why lock out changes on that (at least up to application deadline)?

Potomac allowed this pre-visit to the school, sort of. We had a great parent visit, and during that visit it was mentioned that we could come by to hike the school's trails if we wanted during an upcoming weekend. We did just that and ended up spending a good two hours walking the trails, checking out the buildings, walking around the fields (and kicking a soccer ball we found on one), etc. It was great. My DC had prior experience at Potomac but this was very low-key, fun experience that made the two later visits we did to Potomac for the interview and testing to be less stressful, as DC had seen the buildings and grounds before.
