We have all commented that the child who plays Marigold seems a little off -- no affect at all.

I agree and also feel bad for saying so, but it is what it is. I've thought that since the beginning - she looks like she's sick.

That said, I loved the introduction of a possible love interest for her. He seems like a good guy, helping out with the paper, etc. I think Mary is truly jealous of Edith's independence and cool job - did you see her expression when Robert was gushing over the magazine with Edith? I have a feeling Edith will marry that guy, he'll adopt Marigold, and she'll have this fabulous life which Mary will forever be jealous of. That is, unless she and Tom marry!

Violet's manservant never moves his mouth when he talks - drives me crazy!! Also driving me crazy - Daisy and her blabbing to everyone about the housing situation for her FIL. Will she ever learn discretion? Shut it, Daisy!

I loved the wedding and teared up. Mrs. Hughes looked lovely, but I felt terrible for her that Cora lit into her the night before (even though she apologized). It cast a shadow over Mrs. Hughes' joy, which made me mad.

I like the turn Edith's storyline took.

The storyline about Violet's manservant's nephew seems like a waste of time with only a few episodes left.

Yes, and I know that parenting standards were completely different in that time/class, but now Edith seems to be flitting out to London for her paper over and over without her beloved Marigold. And then staying a couple days, a week solo? Sure Mrs. Drewe would be even happier to hear that Marigold has been taken away from her to be cared for by a nanny exclusively for days/weeks a month.

[Note: I have nothing against nannies and employ one myself! Not trying to start another WOHM/SAHM battle - just pointing out how Edith's class/culture has an interesting conception of maternal devotion in the first place...]

It definitely seems like the hatred for him has picked up. Carson did not used to be so blatantly mean to his face and he seemed generally more accepted by some of the others. Now it seems like he is a total pariah in a way that it didn't before.

I was under the impression that Carson was very dismissive to Thomas because Thomas asked if he could interview for other jobs. I know Carson is deeply loyal to Downton, but surely if he knows staff are to be laid off, he would support them looking for new positions?

As for the others, I didn't notice anyone treating him worse than before. Except maybe the a-hole he had to interview with. He was horrible.

I mean, Thomas blatantly made it known that he only wanted to look because he thought he was about to be laid off. That whole storyline is kind of confusing to me. why do they think there are going to be layoffs again? I know Violet had a whole conversation about it, but I don't remember the Crawley house saying it.

I'm also a little confused about the situation with Edith and the Drews. What was the initial agreement under which the Drews took Marigold? Who do they think she was? Do they know Edith is her mother?

I think Violet's awful maid (Danker?) blabbed to the Downton staff about possible layoffs, so now everyone's aware of the possibility. I actually like the man Thomas has become, though I couldn't stand him in the first couple of seasons. I think he's been seriously humbled by the kindness Baxter has shown him, even when he was so horrible to her. He seems to have turned over a new leaf, which I'm glad to see.

As for Edith, I think the Drews agreed to take in Marigold and raise her close to Downton, with the agreement that Edith could come see her whenever she liked. Mr. Drew definitely knew Marigold was Edith's daughter, and I think Mrs. Drew gradually realized it when Edith kept showing up. Now, of course, I'm sure Mrs. Drew knows who Edith is. I just can't believe the Granthams are telling the Drews to move, after everything the Drews did for them.

I find the situation with Mrs. Drew to be heartbreaking. After all, they were raising Marigold as their own daughter for some time, until Edith took her away to Downton. It would be like someone taking away one of your own children, yet Robert and Cora don't seem particularly sympathetic. Cora, especially, seems extremely passive about the whole situation and not nearly as empathetic and compassionate toward the Drews as she she should be. I was sobbing when they showed Mrs. Drew rocking Marigold. How awful for her. Even Mr. Drew has the most compassionate way about him. Edith - she should be forever grateful for everything the Drews did for her. How can they possibly tell them to uproot their lives and move? They owe them so much.

+1000. I found Edith's whole give baby up for adoption, take the baby back, give baby up again, take baby back (at what 2 years??) pretty horrifying to begin with. But this turn of events is practically sinister. Oh gee thanks for covering my ass for years, I'm just going to emotionally gut your wife and then kick you off the land you've been cultivating for a century. I really don't see why folks think Edith is somehow the "sympathetic one." Really, she is just utterly selfish, the sad-sack version, and Mary is utterly selfish, the glam version.
