Since we haven't had a draft in 40 years - doubt we'd start now. But, yes, theoretically, there is no reason why girls shouldn't sign up for selective service. Although perhaps the child-bearing aspect of sending young girls off to fight and then not having anyone home to continue the species - but then I read WAY to many dystopic/sci-fi books.
Don’t quite understand your thinking. It takes two to continue the species - female AND male.
One man can impregnate hundreds. One woman can only have a small number of children.
Women have to have some skin in the game. Why should women be allowed to vote on sending just the men to fight and die?
When did we start having plebescites on the question of whether to send folks off to die in a foreign land? Dubya never asked gor my input.
+1!

Plus 100 to this! I don't think our daughters should register and this is the main reason why. When males and females are truly treated equally then we can talk about registering females. Until then NO WAY
Chicken and egg. Registering in the selective service is one of the steps to being treating equally. You can't pick some parts of being "treated equally" and not the other.
And equally caring for children and elderly parents is one of the steps in order for men to have any credibility at all when it comes to passing judgment about women. Step up or shut up.

Presently, there are different male and female physical standards to serve in the military at all. Many combat jobs have a different, higher standard for applicants to meet. The standards are set to take into account the demands of the job. The safety of everyone in the unit depends on everyone in the unit having the physical abilities necessary. Whether you are male or female, for instance, you may have to pick up and carry the heaviest man in the unit and get him to safety.
Have you seen the pictures of the women at Ranger school? They are tough and cool, but I wouldn't say that most women could do what those women can do. Yes, many more can and will be trained to successfully compete for the toughest combat roles, but it will not be 50%.

Men should have some skin in the game related to childbirth. Why should only women have to suffer through pregnancy and childbirth?
yeah, and how come women can't pee standing up?

It's only a matter of time. This country can't continue to send the same young people on multiple combat deployments while 90% of the populace sit in the homes begging the politicians to engage in more wars.
