I'm the opposite. Unless it is for a grandparent or great grandparent I would not pull my kids for a funeral. I pull them for Disney almost every year. What kid wants to attend a funeral of some distant relative?

Guess what? Grades don't matter at all in elementary school. Literally...not at all.

Did you know that under 2.0 homework in elementary school is not graded and has zero impact on their final grade (which will likely be a P anyways)?

Middle and high school are different since homework counts towards grades.

Our school will not give you a packet beforehand and kids are expected to have the work completed when they return or take no grade. Anticipated tests are taken before they leave on on the first day back. I think it's wrong to expect a teacher to project the class pace and arrange special work to allow for someone's vacation. If I took my kids out for any reason I would not ask for any accommodations.

If DD seems to be doing well in school overall, then YES! My family took our vacation in October every year and it didn't set me back at all.

Nope, I don't think it's high end. I think it's fun for kids. But it's my experience that anti-disney folks call into two camps: those who can't afford a nice trip to disney, and snobby poseurs who are philosophically opposed to fun.

We did this, around the Columbus day weekend days off from FCPS. My DS was in 3rd grade in AAP. I would do it, didn't seem to matter that much. Although the teacher did tell me to get a tutor for 2 weeks as he missed 3 days.

Now in 5th grade we had an opportunity to visit Europe during the same weekend, and we did it was 4 days missed, DS is currently going in early and staying late for a few days to make up missed work and classroom time

You will not get in any sort of trouble for travel. Everyone seems to travel at our school. It's just not a big deal.

We travel multiple times a year. Always on school break. I spend tons on travel.

I'm always curious about why people ask this (or other "would you X?" questions) when they're determined to do it anyway.

Ask the person who's actually affected (in this case, the teacher) if you're actually open to changing your mind. And if the teacher says it's fine to miss school, don't complain later if she's out for a week to take vacation.
