I imagine NYC pizza comes with a side of roaches cooked into the sauce. Yuck. Wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole.

Pizza Hut used to be the bomb, especially their pan pizza. The crust was a little crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside, covered with a delicious sauce, the right amount of cheese and toppings.

I grew up in Ohio and, to me, “pizza” is a general category, like “Chinese.” There are different classes of pizza, from mass produced with cheap ingredients to high end places with fresh ingredients, artisanal topping combinations, and authentic crusts, prepared in specialty ovens by highly trained pizza chefs. There are different pizza styles: NY style, Chicago style, Detroit style, etc. There are different pizza fusion dishes: fruit pizza, chocolate pizza, taco pizza, cheeseburger pizza, etc. School cafeteria pizza is pizza and the dish created in Naples, Italy is pizza, but I wouldn’t compare the two.

LOL. Ok, this thread was dead and now back, but I always loved Pizza Hut. It was always a treat when we got to go there as a kid.

During the school year, my sister and I loved the Book It certificates for our free personal pan pizza if we met the monthly reading goals.

I remember too that they offered a "tour" to see the pizza get made and you could even top the pizza that you would get served. Did that with scouts and my little league team.

The red cups, pitchers of soda, pan pizza. Great times!

A kid I went to HS with, his Mom worked at the local pizza hut for almost 40 years. When they finally closed, they recognized her with an award. She was always there when we went!

NYC pizza is a pale shadow of Neapolitan pizza. If you haven't been to Napoli, I suggest you visit some time.

+1. NYC is genuinely disgusting.

By far the best pizza, best. And their breadsticks and sauce were amazing too. They are few and far between now so I can’t speak to the current quality and taste but I sure do miss it!

My friend worked there in HS in the 80s and showed us how they used lard for the crust.

It was always gross. Maybe a different variation of gross now.

When you ate there back in the day, it was fresh and and came out on this little pizza stand thing, and the pan pizza was still in the cast iron pan. And the drinks were fountain drinks in pitchers.

I also did office lunches there. The lunch buffet was the best!

I loved the apple pie pizza for dessert.

I had forgotten all about the lunch buffet. I thought it was such a treat when I was working my first job in the mid-90s! Dessert pizza!

And BlackRock does not give a damn about your 90s nostalgia. They shall extract the value out of the company whether you like the food or not.

And Blackrock is controlled by Vanguard, a parent corporation. And Vanguard by those around the Fed. And then there is China, etc.

Most of the Pizza Hut restaurants I would go to as a youth are long gone and have been replaced by carry out locations.
When I order carryout from Pizza Hut more often than not I end up with a Pizza that looks like this.
I try to tell my wife & kids this is not what the Pizza looked like when I used to eat at Pizza Hut when I was growing up.

What has your experience been with carryout pizza from Pizza Hut?

There are still a few of the old school Pizza Huts around with the booths, buffet, juke box, and Pac Man table all the kids fight to sit at. But not telling anyone where they are, so don't ask. Want them to remain as they are and not get overcrowded.

6000+ locations. Have fun.

This is a zombie thread from the mid-2010s. However, since I worked for a year in corporate HQ of a large competitor, I do have some info.

Apparently, there were permanent changes made to Pizza Hut's pan pizza crust. I think trans fats or some other food industry baddie ingredient was removed from the recipe. And that is why the pan pizza is no longer the same as it was during peak Gen-X. I still like it the best of the big chain pizzas.
