They can't accommodate every tom dick and harry's holidays. If you are so concerned get on the PTA and start a and coordinate dates. Let me guess, you are too busy....

Yom Kippur is a little bigger than that. Scheduling a major school event on Yom Kippur is a pretty huge oversight.

Even for people who are trying to be conscientious, that is a difficult period to schedule around.

Children don't have to fast and water is allowed, regardless. I think it's hard to schedule something for a month long holiday every year - there has to be conflict somewhere. My husband's family is muslim and they continue to go to school and work while fasting.

I my DD will not be in school, but it will be an excused absence. Not an issue, frankly. BTSN has no makeup day

Makes sense. My parents always kept us home that day, to attend services/fast. No big deal. Back to school night though is a one time night, so it is something to work around

Also, Yom Kippur requires a cessation of work, Ramadan does not.

They will the same problem in a year or two with finals. However, it is much harder to schedule around a month long fast versus a one day fast.

This is a tougher one, as field day usually falls in the last week or so of school (after the SOL's), and Ramadan lasts a month.
