That's not true. That's why my last post was more of a just, I guess some people just care and some don't. This thread has answered my question. There appears to simply be two types of people in this world. Those who welcome the poop of strangers on their property and its smell in their homes and those who don't. No one has given an example of someone else's poop that, if I had to wash it out of my trash can, would not totally disgust me. It amazes me that other people don't even care about stranger's poop their can!

I suppose one of the things both sides have to live with is the existence of the other side...

My issue is that a lot of time the trash guys just grab the trash bags, instead of dumping the bin in the truck, so the dog bags stay behind and smell everything up.

Disgusting.

OP, did you read the numerous posts that state that those little bags often don't get dumped by the garbage collectors, and then they remain in the bottom of the can? And often they break open and the poo gets all over the bottom of the can, which I'm sure even you can admit is disgusting and should not be the resposibility of the can owner to clean out? It's really not that hard to understand.

Why wouldn't you care about someone's dog poop making your whole garage smell like poop, especially in the summer? It's part of your house. I don't understand why that wouldn't matter to you. My garage doesn't usually smell with regular garbage in there, but it always smells like poop when there is dog poop there. What is wrong with your nose that this wouldn't matter?

Some people are just dirty and don't care.

Bull! I speak from experience. My dogs have all died, but I used to walk my very large male and female dogs 45 minutes every morning before I fed them and again in the evening for another 45. Plus, I used to work for a boarding kennel and have cared for hundreds of dogs. Dogs are like babies, and a dog who eats on a schedule will poop on a schedule. You shouldn't free feed. Look it up. It's a fundamental step in house training.

And, yes, you can absolutely train dogs not to urinate all over the neighborhood. Make sure your dog poops and/or pees before you leave your property or the designated public area, and then go for your walk. Keep its head up with an appropriate restraint, making sure it's alert, and move briskly. Don't walk slowly, letting your dog sniff every bush. If you mosey and continuously stop to check your phone, of course the dog is going to mark. When you stop to cross the street, command the dog to sit, so it doesn't pee. The goal of a walk is to drain energy, and it's the owner's responsibility to discipline through setting boundaries. The dog will get more out of the walk.

The majority of dog owners lack common sense and don't understand dog behavior.

I said in an earlier pp that I don't have a garage and when I was a kid we didn't keep our trash cans in the garage because no one liked the smell of any trash. I think the garage issue is real, but not in my neighborhood.

Okay, now you've issued a challenge. Are you okay with all of these:

1. Used hypodermic needles
2. Used condoms.
3. Used tampons or pads
4. A dead animal.
5. That animal is a skunk.
6. (I deleted this one because it was too sad.)
7. An American flag.

I mean hey, it's just garbage.

The American flag would be illegal and so that would upset me since I could be held accountable for your crime. The animal bothers me in theory I suppose but unless it was a skunk I honestly don't think I'd notice unless it was a skunk. Skunk smell you can literally smell for miles so is legitimately in a different category. The other ones don't bother me.

Dog owner here. You don't put things in other people's trash cans. And if someone isn't careful about dog poop disposal, it does get on the inside of the can and the owner of the can has to smell it/wash it.

I carry my well-wrapped poop home to dispose of - occasionally in my purse!

Haven't read all the posts but for me it's more than just the smell. Our trash can is situated in such a way that the trash collectors only remove the bags, they don't dump the can into the back of the truck. Bags of dog poop and other random items that are not in the large trash bags collect int the can the. I have to clean it. It's disgusting and I don't want to clean up after you.

I rinse out my trash can with a hose and dry it before taking it inside the garage.

And I would be very offended if someone threw their dog poop in my trash. Now, if they double bagged it, put it in a ziplock bag and then put in a contractor grade trashbag and tied it so that not even one wiff of stench escaped, I would allow them to put in my trashcan when it was out on the curb, before the trash was picked, on trash pick up day.

Oh, and then I would also expect them to rinse out my trash can and Lysol it.

That's a lot of ziplocs to avoid a smell.

Yup. I know. Please note that I also want them to wash and lysol the trash can after that.

If they agreed to all my conditions around trash can usage, I would let them use it, if they mowed my lawn for free during summer.
