We were rear ended in a sedan and I know I would have had better protection in an SUV. Minivan is too much for our needs. So you never know what someone is thinking when they are getting a BMW or Mercedes. Of course I can never get a luxury car since they all have leather seats but why judge.
You sound like a sweet person. I wish I had people in my life like that.
Sweet, but naive and ignorant, stereotypical of the activist mentality. I like sweet people, but stay away from the naive and ignorant as they are boring, shallow, and loud.
Both BMW and Mercedes makes vinyl as the default seating surface material for their lower rung cars. You have to pay extra for leather.
What a miserable person you are. Is it possible for you to provide someone with information without criticizing them?

Anonymous wrote:(First, I know this is a petty rant!) I do very well financially and have been doing so for many years. Yet I'm frugal and drive a Japanese sedan. I often see people in large BMW 7 series or S class Mercedes and really feel a strong dislike, even revulsion. This is not sour grapes: I could afford an S class if I choose to so allocate my money, but find the idea financially ridiculous in how wasteful it is. I suppose part of me thinks the drivers of those showy, quickly depreciating, gas-guzzling, expensive maintenance-loving behemoths are trying to compensate for something. Anyone else share this reaction?

Everyone, I mean everyone, has their indulgences.
Spoken like a white person. Not everyone.
Everyone. Even if it's Doritos or cupcakes.

* Some people want one for image
* Some people want one for performance
* Some people want one for looks
* Some people want one because Jeremy Clarkson praised it
* Some people just always wanted one growing up for no particular reason...
* More people bought one than can really afford to keep it up
(There's a guy at my work that trades in his year-old Vette for a new one... every year. Just so he always has the newest model. It's pretty cool but seems like an asinine way to spend money.)
People who have a performance car are more likely to use that performance occasionally compared with someone driving a Prius.
Sometimes someone using Power will pass in a less considerate manner than might be advised. Those with less Power are less likely to pass aggressively.
I dunno. Am I reading too much into this?

If you were really concerned about the environment you could have gone without a car. Frankly, having a kid did huge damage to the environment that you will never be able to make up.
