OMG. I'm the PP, and my comment wasn't a personal attack in any way (how could it be, when I have no idea whether the poster of the previous comment has children or not?). It was a rhetorical question meant to drive home the comment that immediately preceded it. In other words, I was implying the exact opposite of what you suggest: that ANY sane parent - including the prior poster if he/she is a parent - would be kicking, screaming, and fighting to the death to save their child from that fate.

New poster here -- I did not see a personal attack there. Just a rhetorical question. And I agree with the rhetorical question, that was hardly how a mother would fight to save her child from the flames.

I also think that Stannis' troops are going to be very unsettled in the long term by the prospect of his having killed his own child in this brutal fashion, whether he justifies it as a religious action meant to save them or what have you. A lot of those soldiers must have families of their own and must have been greatly affected by that sight. I can't imagine that in the long term they would not be spooked by that whole scene.

What the Lord of Light asked if Stannis is not that different from what God asked of Abraham.

First of all, what God asked of Abraham was a means test of his faith. Not a literal homicide of his child. And do you really think the Lord of Light did the asking? Seemed to me it was Melisandre giving the orders.

Sure. But I mean that Stannis believed that this was the right thing to do based on his belief in Melisandre/The Lord of the Light. Abraham believed that the request was real and was ready to commit the sacrifice, whether or not God chose to save his son.

Stannis is a misguided fool. Hopefully someone puts him out of his misery soon so he doesn't take down too many other people on his quest.
