Yes. I'm missing the kind of relationship my Mom and I have. I have a different kind of relationship with my boys, and there's nothing saying a daughter and I would be close. I wanted a girl the second time, but I'm glad I have my boys.

DH is insanely loyal to his mother, while his sister couldn't care else or be bothered to visit, call, or email her at all, especially when my MIL is very sick (and alone, she's divorced and never remarried). While my MIL may get on my nerves from time to time, I do respect how much my DH has stepped up to take care of her. So don't assume a daughter will always be there, my DH is proof that a son can be just, if not more, caring and loving over a lifetime.

See, this is what I mean. There is always girl bashing on these threads. Why is this okay, and not okay for someone to say, thank goodness I have a girl? I have one of each, and yeah, I am glad I have a girl. I would have been just as glad to have a boy. But I am not seeing the distinction here.

I think it's immature to bash EITHER gender. And it shows your regret, frankly -- I don't think someone who really didn't care would waste the time to bash the other gender. It's a "methinks the lady doth protest too much" situation. Any mom of boys or girls who says something to the effect of "thank god I only have ___" sounds desperately sad to me.

This whole conversation and what OP overheard is weird.

I have one of each. DH was the one with a strong preference for a girl first. As did my MIL who had all grandsons until our DD. But it is all good and we are happy, even with one of ours having significant special needs.

Exactly. I was the only girl in a family of boys including all boy cousins. Caused more trouble than all the boys combined so I am happy (and relieved) having only boys.

If you are a troublemaker then it's likely your sons will be also because well they're being raised by someone who is one, being a troublemaker has nothing to do with gender.

I have two girls and one boy.

I was a reluctant mother to a boy.

My son is now 12 and brings our family so much joy and balance.
