I feel the same way about pregnancy and the cult of motherhood. It's voluntary, you don't deserve any accolades.

I don't get this one. So, you think being a mother is nbd? Yes, thank god most of us voluntarily choose to be mothers.

I don't think society should fawn all over pregnant women, but if it weren't for pregnant women, this world would die out in a hurry.

That would be fine.

You are definitely bitter and unhappy. You need some therapy, stat.

NP here. I am enraged by all the free stuff SN parents get that have nothing to do withy their child's SN. I can kinda see the free PT/OT/Speech maybe, but my very wealthy friend also gets FOR FREE from the county: preschool withh bus service, 42 hours/week nanny, Medicaid and food stamps. FOR FREE. And the nanny does her laundry and watches her NT kids too!!

Uh, wha? Food stamps is a means-based program, as is Medicaid -- if they are indeed "very wealthy" then they wouldn't be eligible for those programs. And I've never heard of a free nanny, no way. Maybe an aid in the classroom? If her child is eligible for a free special needs preschool and full-time aid, you shouldn't be enraged or envious...it means her child is quite disabled.

Try having a significantly delayed child, then judge. To get all that is is severe, not significant.
It's all true. The means test for Medicaid/food stamps is done ON THE KID, who has no assets. All his copays and RX's are paid by Medicaid, and his food is bought with food stamps. In addition to preschool five days a week, his mom is allowed 42 hours of nanny care paid. She does not work, has two NT kids, lives in a 6000sf house and drives a large luxury SUV. Her SN child walks, talks, eats, and is potty trained, he is just delayed pretty significantly. I don't see why she needs a tax payer paid nanny because of that.

Wow.. you sound pretty bitter. Mommy issues? Fertility issues?

Not bitter at all. Just stating an opinion and you got super defensive and proved my point. Pregnancy hormones?

If she gets that her kid is severly disabled and you sound crappy. There is more to that story. We spend a small fortune on speech therapy and private schools. It has never been free. And, the free stuff is usually crappy as you get what you pay for.

My minority opinion, at least on these boards, is that I could not disagree more strongly with this opinion.

The military, police, and emergency responders such as firefighters and EMTs are the careers I hold in the highest esteem. I have enormous respect for those individuals until and unless a specific person does something to show they do not deserve my high regard, and I very much appreciate the difficulties and sacrifices endured by those serving honorably in such professions and their families.

If it was involuntary would you have more respect for it?

Hell yeah I would.

More women would outsource it if it were less expensive and socially acceptable. This leaves poor women to do the hard work.

I'm somewhat skeptical about all this. For a disabled child to get on Medicaid, they generally have to qualify for SSI (needs based benefits based on family income). A wealthy family will not qualify. I am under the impression most social programs use household income/assets, not just the child. If her child is qualifying for a full time nanny/aide, it sounds like the child must be pretty severely disabled, which is sad. And I say this as someone who can't stand people who try to abuse the system.

1. My home is a benevolent dictatorship, not a democracy. Too much choice at a young age is not something I think is good for kids.

2. A huge part of the "education problem" in America is rooted in an "attitude problem". Kids are disrespectful to teachers, believing that school should be fun/enjoyable/convenient and if something is not they treat it as optional. Too many kids lack the discipline to simply do as they're told and work hard at a given task. Parents are too eager to take their child's 'side' instead of acting like adults and supporting the teachers.

3. I don't believe in censoring my children's access to most TV/movies/music/books.

4. American society has a tendency to baby and shelter our kids too much, which I find harmful. Older kids and teens are capable of much more than mainstream society seems to believe.

5. Outward appearance and the way people present themselves is important, and it does communicate something about a person. I don't think this is shallow or something people need to get over and learn not to judge, I think it's a fact of life that people should be taught to harness and have work for them.

6. Society has become way too casual and ill-mannered over the years.

Aren't many of the positions with high casualty and injury rates filled by people from poor families?
