Yeah, still trying to figure out the logistics of this. Can't think of many places that would be a 2 hour flight, then a 5 hour drive. Maybe northern Wisconsin? Or the UP of Michigan? Those might be pudding happy places.

Good idea, although since OP is driving 5 hours from the nearest airport it's unlikely there will be a trader joes, or any store, open thanksgiving day. When we've gone to our summer place for thanksgiving the only place open is the convenience store at the gas station.

OP, may be too late but what about mail ordering Georgetown cupcakes? They have a thanksgiving collection. The cupcakes ship well, and you'll be done with this ridiculousness about pudding. Who wants pudding on thanksgiving anyway.

It's not the Op's recipe. Just an example of how you can throw together something very quickly. I'm sure that someone could come up with something a bit more elegant - maybe even a layered pumpkin/vanilla dish.

But the MIL requested that dish specifically, not just anything. I'm with the people upthread who are wondering why the MIL can't make/buy her own dessert.

Who knows, maybe Op asked what she could bring and that is what MIL came up with. I suppose Op could always lie and say that she pre-made it but it was confiscated by security on the plane. Honestly, I would either just make the dish when I got there and if that wasn't practical I would come up with some sort of substitution. Op could give MIL a heads up - this dish won't travel well so I am bringing/making "X" dish instead. If MIL doesn't like it, MIL can make the original pudding herself or buy another dessert.

Upthread OP said she was pissed that no one else was asked to bring anything to Thanksgiving dinner except her.
