My DS attend University of Maryland, primarily because I wanted him to live at home. He just turned 15 in June so it seemed reasonable.

Any of the uber-conservative schools - Oral Roberts, Liberty, Bob Jones, etc.

Ditto. I have a coworker that went to one of those institutions and admits that she didn't get a good education because they were more focused on morality than education.

If you can't easily get there with public transportation: can't catch a shuttle from the airport or train station, or more than 30 minutes from a decent hospital. Places like St Mary's College of MD or Kenyon or McDaniel

11 54 here. I hope all of you with smart kids appreciate that you could even consider these great schools. Mine can go anywhere he can get in and we ll pay. Y'all are very fortunate.

Community college. My kid is not a great student and with his luck would get the adjunct professors w something to prove. He ll go to a small private school where he ll get lots of attention.

Even before I realized that Small Liberal Arts Colleges (SLACS) were considered the most unsafe colleges (according to crime stats), I ruled out SLACS because 1) they provide an incomplete college experience ( more like a continuation of prep school) and; 2) in my professional experience, SLAC graduates (even from the best SLACS) are woefully unprepared for the real world. Some catch up in time, but I wouldn't consider a SLAC for my. DC.

The Greek ratio at most schools is low, even at big state football schools where people assume that most people are Greek. The stereotypical image of out-of-control partying is true only for a fraction of the student population.

Everyone who I have met who has attended Georgetown, as an undergraduate, has come out as a pompous person. I have seen enthusiastic, open minded kids, thirsty for knowledge, end up being narrow minded and full of themselves. They turn out arrogant, entitled people. I do not want that for my child.

I discouraged small colleges. With yearly turnover of 1/4 and 3rd yr students away for study abroad, there just wasn't a sufficient critical mass of students, IMO, but "allow", yes I would allow.
