A lot of the families I know with kids named these names are Catholic. Plus some Marys and Patricks of course. But in my area of Virginia there are a lot of wealthy/“old money” Catholics.

Maiden names as a first name is more of a southern thing.

This is my first child. I’m not a wasp but my husband is a 10th generation northern Virginian, so I guess that qualifies.

I named the second kid so he got the Catholic Saint name.


And yes first kid has the unrelated cutesy nickname.

This. Those cutesy nicknames seem like they could only happen in exaggerated fictional accounts, but they are very, very real.
