Meaning before the meeting tomorrow? I think the proposal is the proposal--it will only change in the nct round (the supposed "final" document).

Here is what I would suggest:

1. Attend tomorrow night's meeting (there is free child care if you need it) and ask a specific question about a set-aside in the Q&A with the DME. Then follow up with another question in your breakout group that is specific to Hearst. Then provide detailed feedback on the form.

2. Write an email to the DME with your concerns.

3. Turn this email into written testimony for next week's hearing. You can submit it for the record if you want.

4. Send copies of the the testimony to your council member, the at large council members, the mayor, and any city-wide candidates (like Bowser).

5. Get others to do the same.

That is my plan (different concerns/schools involved).

I agree with an at risk preference in concept but I think it needs to be implemented gradually and there should be a max % as well as a min. And I think that max should be less than 30%. Anyone else hear that npr piece not too long ago about the studies on mixed achievement level groups and they found the optimal mix (ie the lower achievers performance was improved without negatively impacting the high or middle achievers ) was right about 20%

Obviously I don't believe at risk necessarily means Lower achieving in every case but as a rough proxy it is reasonable


Under the current proposal, it's ALL the OOB spots at schools with <30% at are subject to the at risk preference. There is no maximum, according to the reps at the meeting last night. But they emphasized with every controversial action, "we want your feedback." So please give them feedback!
