I am totally disgusted that things like bagged salad, frozen chicken, 2-liter sodas, and large containers of ice cream are even being mentioned in passing as food for "poor people."

THESE ARE ALL REAL FOOD, you clowns. Just food. Food. Food that all different kinds of people eat.

Real poor people do not go out to eat at Applebbes, Outback or any other sit down restaurant.

Real poor people eat a lot of chips. and McD $1 food and pizza slices.

Kool aid, Mountain Dew, things like Doritos and cheese doodles.

Foods with poor nutritional content. So highly processed foods of any kind.

For restaurants: all fast food joints besides in& out, tgi Fridays, Applebee's, Olive Garden, outback, sizzler, red lobster, etc.

Low class food to me is canned foods, ramen noodles, Tang, Kool Aid, Wonder bread (thank gawd they stopped making that crap), lunchables, mcdonalds, kraft mac and cheese.

My relatives live in Martinsburg, WV. They move there from here about 20 years ago. They are definitely working class and I am slightly better off but in terms of food, I admit that I equate what they serve with lower SES.

The really stick to very salty, processed stuff and it's pretty tasteless. I usually polish off the smallish veggie tray they put out with carrots and celery. I brought an appetizer once that had goat cheese and they thought of it as an "exotic" ingredient. The same with hummus. I think these are pretty standard fare. My child was served both at her large chain daycare years ago.
