I gained weight after I had kids.

One older lady that I knew started to call me "Big Mama". Nice.

When I worked for my douchebag law firm, the lead partner, after blatantly playing favorites on assignments, training, etc., would explain "We just chose a few associates at random." One day I said "Do you mean you picked names out of a hat?" "No.....I just chose the people."

I was talking to a relative's in-law who didn't recognize me. When I said we had sat next to each other at dinner after the (very, very) small wedding six months prior, she said, "Oh, have you gained a lot of weight since then?“

When I said no, she said, "But your face has much fewer wrinkles!"

(I was early 30s at the time, not that it matters.)

Returned for high school homecoming my freshman year of college - ran into a high school classmate and we exchanged pleasantries about our respective colleges, etc. She asked where I was attending college and when I told her she paused, blinked and said, "I thought you were really smart."

We took some AP classes together and yes, I was and am very smart! I just had fair-to-average grades and a ton of family problems. That bitch!

Those words really stung, especially because I thought we were casual friends.

BF (now DH) and I worked in a different country for several years, while our parents lived in the neighboring states in the US. My parents suggested they introduce themselves to my BF's mom, so they can maybe send packages with each other when traveling, exchange news, etc. BF's mom refused to meet my parents and told me that she'd rather get to know the families of the kids who went on Birthright trip with my BF some time ago, because there is a guarantee these people are educated, intelligent, and classy. I am not Jewish.

My father: it's a good thing you aren't stunningly beautiful, since the guys won't just want your body, but will rather be attracted to you as a person. The funny thing is- he would say lots of compliments to me, too, but this just made them all null.
When I was already married and hinted I am going thru a rough patch with H, he said: well I hope you know that single moms don't have much value on the marriage market. I kid you not!!!
I don't think he was trying to insult me, and he is by no means a male chauvinist. He is just totally clueless and insensitive.

Midway through the meal one guy leaned over and tapped me on the shoulder and said, "you're about, what, 135?" And then they both laughed hysterically. I was a size 8-10 at the time, which I thought was just fine, but this really gutted me. So humiliating.

You're not as dumb as you look

"You're Jewish? Wow, really??" Followed by, in a reassuring tone and an approving pay on the arm, "you don't look Jewish at all." Said by numerous people at my small town, Midwestern college.

Um, ok. I styled my hair to hide the horns today?
