Lawyers would salivate for that case. The chance to sue a school system that 'required' students to attend school but didn't take care of the ice in the parking lot?

People have won lawsuits because laymen didn't shovel the snow from in front of their homes.

You might sue if you had a debilitating injury that would affect you for the rest of your life, for example if you could not type on a keyboard because of chronic pain and you could not work or needed costly supports for the rest of your life. You would sue not to be petty or vindictive but because you needed to make up for lost livelihood or crushing expenses, and you needed to support your family. People have died from slipping on ice. I think that some people are not aware of the severity of the injuries that could happen.

Herein lies the problem: Some roads have still not been properly treated. So why open schools when only PART of the county is 'free and clear' to attend?

And what's stopping you or your au pair from reading to/with the kids, assigning math/science problems, having them play educational games online, etc.

In the end, PARENTS are 100% responsible for every aspect of their children's lives. NO WAY would I put my child's education 100% in the hands of the state. Are you crazy?!

They're going to teach them what they want. The school curriculum needs to be supplemented at home. That's something I'd do whether there were snow days or not.

Kids were injured too. There were also traffic accidents near the school. Wait till the people declaring everyone a "wus" fall. They probably won't bat an eyelash suing the school system for deciding to have schools open.

I twisted my ankle severely in my school's parking lot in one of the many potholes. I didn't once think of suing the goddamn county.

We went to school today in Arlington. Nobody died, nobody was maimed. We used caution on ice. We drove slower.

For chrissake--you might as well wrap yourself in bubble wrap. There are numerous studies that show all of this over-regulation and playground regulation of childhood hobbies--tag, tree-climbing results in much more severe injuries to these same children when they reach adulthood. There is balance you learn from living life...and being allowed to live life like a normal person (not a fearful freak) early on.

It was easier to walk around yesterday actually. There is a lot more ice out now it seems.

Roads in my neighborhood (at least the ones I've been on) are passable.
