No, it's definitely the abuses. Bush ran into the same problem. He was forced to accept a 2012 withdrawal timeline in exchange for a new SOFA in Iraq; otherwise they were going to kick us out Dec 2008. This for a President who swore to never set a timeline was a big defeat.

You can't do this and expect people to forget:

This has to be the most bewildering thing I have yet read. The guy basically said Chris Stevens didn't speak his mind, and then made a bunch of excuses as to why he couldn't. Protocol required him to decline Ham's requests? WTF?

What he isn't saying that is the elephant in the room: We have trouble getting status of forces agreements because of the abuses our military committed in Iraq and Afghanistan. That's why this thing got screwed up. They figured the CIA people could cover until it was all worked out, and that plan failed.
