Right around the time someone decided to say "kiddo" instead of child or kid. Sets my teeth on edge.

I grew up in a family with four kids and the older two were always called "the big kids" and the younger two "the little kids." Always. Even when we were in college. I was one of the "little" kids and my younger brother and I definitely got treated as sort of permanently young. I also think my older siblings felt like they had to be prematurely adult in a way that wasn't great for them. It was not a healthy way to think about different family members.

I have never heard this term.

Is the subReddit moderator claiming that this is what Hilaria Baldwin calls her kids? Oh no, she is nutso!!!

Littles and kiddos are very annoying to me. ILs are out of Iowa. It is different in use than the big-little designation. Also find referring to oneself as "mama" constantly very annoying.

Part of it may be frequency. Think 30+ times in under a half hour.

Not everyone. In my circle that term would produce defensive projectile vomiting to drive the twee parent far away.

Yes I hate this. Never heard until we moved a few years ago. It was being used heavily with the MLM crowd who invite you over for some “sips” and “savories”.

I don't mind "littles" or "kiddos" or whatever people want to call their kids. It s term of endearment. And also don't mind DC/DS/DD/DH/DW if you are on a message board there that is the standard shorthand.

I always crack up when I encounter it elsewhere because it's a telltale sign the writer spend a little too much time on boards like this. It's a weird abbreviation (who ever refers to their husband or child as "Dear ---" outside of these abbreviations? It's silly) and I can only imagine that when people randomly encounter it in an email or on a neighborhood listserve and they aren't familiar, it must look so weird.

I also hate the term "hubby" but recognize that's probably my own weird bugaboo.

Hate it. So ridiculously cutesy coming out of an adult woman's mouth. It has big mommy blogger energy.

Thanks for the random bump of an 8 year old thread. Lol. Those kids aren’t so little any more.

I watched a movie that was made in 2008, they said "Littles" talking about kids and "Bigs" talking about adults. It was funny. ?

Here in Tennessee, we always said "young'uns" (Young ones).
