I loved and adored my husband when I married him. He started hitting me after I had his child. I told him I wanted out but he threatened that if I divorced him he would use his very wealthy parents money and make sure I never saw my child again. Years of his abuse. He finally got therapy from a great therapist and is still in therapy years later. He doesn’t hit me anymore, but his entitlement comes through. He thinks he’s “so” changed. Whatever. I’ll never forgive him. Kid turns 18 soon
No court will force kid to spend time alone with him.

I'm not sure. We've been together 25 years, raised several children together, and been through thick and thin. I often daydream about finding someone new, more exciting, more compatible in some ways, but in the end I don't know if I'd do it. When it comes to relationships I'm pretty conservative and risk averse.

Seriously. It is painful to admit but as a smart, attractive mid-30's woman, my desire to be done with my marriage has absolutely nothing to do with my thinking another relationship will be better.
I am staying together for our son, but I am starting to think that won't be better for him. I know it is the only reason my husband is staying in it too. I know him well enough to know that it is not because of me.
