Zero. Work covers everything. In case I should die my life insurance should be enough to pay for college.

But I have arranged it that I will take off 6 months off of work from my company when each of them finishes high school. Larry will pick up the slack.
We will spend that six months up in Alaska, where I will teach them to fish, to hunt, to ferment meats, and to pickle wild grasses. My uncle has some good land up there - not real farming land, but quiet.
I see which way this country is headin, and I sure as hell know that what I teach them in that 6 months is going to be a damn site more valuable than wasting money smoking pot and drinking funny lemanade in some fruity Ivy leage.
How are Larry's brothers, Darryl and Darryl, doing?

We saved some, but it turns out she does not need it: lax scholarship. The investment in club tournaments paid off.

2 years old and we have nothing saved for her. We are focused on being 100% debt free. We also own some rental properties. When it's time for her to go to college, we'll sell off one of them and give her the cash.

Are you serious? You have $21k for a 4 year old and you think that you have a "late start"?
Washington is a very funny place with little relation to how the vast majority of people live.
We didn't have any of that until this year, following a turnaround in 2011 due to job changes for both of us. Before that we were down to three mortgage payments in the bank, no income for more than six months and $40K in credit card debt - we were charging everything except the mortgage payment. So yes, I feel like we have been playing catchup on a lot of financial issues.
