All staples of my youth! And yes, I was a poor.
We weren't even close to poor and I ate all those things. I still love Kraft American Cheese slices!
I've never had canned chicken of creamed chipped beef on toast, but didn't everyone eat bologna and individually-wrapped American cheese slices on Wonder Bread in the 1970s? I recall that one set of my grandparents only at whole wheat bread and cereals, low fat ice cream (they called it "ice milk"), fresh fruits and vegetables from a farmer's market, and plain yogurt with fruit or a little honey. Nothing came out of the freezer or a can, ever. In the seventies, my siblings and I used to joke about how weird and gross their eating habits were.
