Really? Plenty of non magnet kids a Blair are in ivy and nescac schools. Same with Einstein. By the numbers it is actually easier to get into a top school from either because of the Whitman quotas. I know there are a lot of bitter people who overpaid for marginal Bethesda locations, but try not to let your moronic tendencies be so naked.

Lower taxes, lower crime, VA isn't a nanny state, NOVA is more business friendly, VA doesn't coddle criminals, illegals, and government dependent vultures, and the list goes on. I know more people (businesses included) who have left MD for NOVA for the very things that I mentioned.

It's the schools! I actually prefer Silver Spring over Bethesda. However, I can't get pass the middle and high schools in Silver Spring. The elementary schools in Silver Spring are great, but kids eventually grow up. So, instead of moving again or paying for private school once your child becomes a tween, most families will just live in a community that has great schools from K-12.

Back to the original point of the thread... I am in Nova and I am amazed somewhat at how prices have increased over the years. And to some degree, I am not surprised.

Around 2000 when I was looking to buy it seemed in Arlington/Alexandria you could find a decent home in the 500-600 range. Now it is more like 750-800+. That is a lot of growth in just 13 years. Which is why in most cases, I think it makes sense for young people to buy as soon as they can swing it, because their income will likely never keep up with the increases in home prices.
