I don't know the CA law but in general these laws don't apply when the two are that close in age.) then the problem is the charge and not that the older one was held back a grade, which you don;t even know happened. So, yes I think it is an irrational argument, even though I don;t completely understand what your point is.

Actually this happened to a family friend in CA. He was 19, she 18, consensual sex, and her parents pressed charges. It all unfolded the summer after senior year. He went to a detention facility, rather than college, and is now listed in the sex-offender database. Have no idea if he was redshirted. But, this does sadly happen.

I'm not against redshirting, if it's directed by the school. I can't believe FFX told the parent it was her decision. I would question how much they know and care about child development.

You are right! I mis-typed. He was 18, she was 17. Sorry. In California it is illegal to have sex with someone under 18, unless they are your spouse. I wasn't being hysterical. A pp above said that "never" happened, and that is not true because it's happened at least once, in this case. And, again, I said it likely didn't have to do with redshirting. But, I'm pointing out the irrational argument that something like that wouldn't ever happen.

That's why a friend held back her August birthday girl. For the social scene in middle/ high school.

As a mom of girls my worry has nothing to do with competition. I think it was a good thing that girls tended to start puberty before the boys in their class. With all of the red shirting of boys they're now going to be going through puberty closer to the same time as the girls in their class. As a mother of girls, this makes a tough time tougher.

Yes, it is a huge problem. When I don't like the fact that the boy in my darling child's kindergarten looks kinda big to be there, it causes me stress in my competition parts. Cause its some kinda outrage.

My kindergartner's teacher keeps saying how well my daughter's doing especially considering she's so young. She goes on and on about how cute my little one is. Guess what - my daughter has a May 3 birthday!!! And, she is above average in height for her age.

She got knocked down the slide (unintentionally) by the nice, but huge, 7 year old boy in her class. Of course, that could have happened regardless of red shirting but I can't effing believe she's the youngest in her class!

Age of consent in Virginia is 15. If one person's age is 14 and the other person is 4 years or older than it is statutory rape.

They seemed to care a lot. This was in the Woodson pyramid. When I questioned whether my son was ready to sit still and how much freedom he would have to move around, they told me the school was "very academically rigorous". They did not suggest that my concerns were unfounded. I think it is easier for them to teach children who are ready to learn in the way they teach. If that is not my kid this year, their attitude was so be it. To be clear, my son is in a Waldorf preschool. It is just a very different environment but it is preschool. They spend a lot of time outside. There are structured activities (story time, painting) but there is also a lot of freedom. I think this is appropriate for ages 4 to 6. Some children that age also learn well in more structured environments but many cannot. I find it interesting that parents here are so offended by the concept that a child is not ready but FCPS educators were not.
