Someone always makes this hysterical argument.
why is it hysterical? The girl's parents are enraged and press charges even if it is consensual.
This hasn't actually happened.
You lose the argument when you say things like this. What you have here are two sets of parents who disagree about this one decision, both basing their opinions on what they firmly believe is best for their children. Then you come in and scream that the children of the parents you don;t agree with are potential rapists. When you do that, you lose and you just embarrass the folks who agree with you.
Actually this happened to a family friend in CA. He was 19, she 18, consensual sex, and her parents pressed charges. It all unfolded the summer after senior year. He went to a detention facility, rather than college, and is now listed in the sex-offender database. Have no idea if he was redshirted. But, this does sadly happen.
I'm not against redshirting, if it's directed by the school. I can't believe FFX told the parent it was her decision. I would question how much they know and care about child development.
This doesn't sound true at all -- 18 is above the age of consent everywhere and most statutes have an "out" if the older one was within two years of the younger. And obviously this has nothing to do with redshirting.
Agains, its hysteria that undermines rational argument.
Anonymous wrote:As a mom of girls my worry has nothing to do with competition. I think it was a good thing that girls tended to start puberty before the boys in their class. With all of the red shirting of boys they're now going to be going through puberty closer to the same time as the girls in their class. As a mother of girls, this makes a tough time tougher.
