GT Chesterbrook vs GT Haycock is more about which kids go. If your child's friends are staying vs if your child's friends are going. Or because an older sibling is already at Haycock. Both are excellent programs.

You couldn't tell from DCUM, but that's how most people in Fairfax feel as well.
Don't live in the Haycock district, but drive by in the morning some times on the way to Metro. Apart from the fact that the kiss-and-drop backs up traffic on Westmoreland, it's a nice place to drive by. Lots of diversity, lots of parents walking happy-looking kids to school in the AM, often with younger brothers and sisters in tow. Chesterbrook and Sherman aren't as crowded, but have a very nice vibe as well.

Louise Archer and Haycock are still closed to AAP transfers in the upper grades, except if you live in the base school boundary. At no point was that policy reversed, but many thought because of the Cluster 2 realignment that it would be. No one ever said that it would change, though.

Nevermind. I was just informed today that Haycock is not taking kids from Franklin Sherman or Chesterbrook next year for 4-6th grade.
God I hate this. How hard is it for them to make up their mind soon enough so that we can plan our life accordingly?

Are you for real? If so, I admire you for your heart of gold, because some of these Cluster 2 parents will be bashing Haycock and making you and your neighbors out to be a villains for years to come. I thought I was emphathetic, too, because somewhere along the 1001st post complaining about Kelly Shears "showing her true colors," teachers "betraying" the children, and kids getting "thrown under a bus," I realized some of these folks are just flat-out drama queens. It's time to move on, folks.
