Thats why FCPS did not include a composite score with this years cogat. Parents like yourself are very confused about the scores. The scores as they stand, percentiles are not comparable. If the NNAT was scored like the cogat was, your childs percentile would have been 75 percentile with a score of 111 instead of 119. Now the differentiation between the two scores is 32 points of percentile. There are a lot of smart kids in fairfax county. I would hope the teachers of FC would say something if they felt any child had some kind of disability. Unless you see something in your childs work that concerns you, i would not panic.
If I were you at this point, I would buy the online mercer practice test for this fairfax cogat and go over the questions with your child. You could then determine if a retest is necessary and you could estimate how much better or worse the new score might come back with a full retest. Thats the easiest short term solution.

I'm very concerned as well. My DD had high average scores on the NNAT (119 and 88th percentile), DRA tests above level, and all good grades. The CogAT came back with a shocking overall 43rd percentile and worst of all a 30 on the verbal. I am calling the school and talking to someone. George Mason's website says that you can retest before 6 months only "if you have a compelling, documented reason to question the accuracy or validity of a test score." http://cap.gmu.edu/page3/page3.html
I am going to advocate for my DD to be retested because I do not at this time trust the CogAT scores. If it turns out they are correct, then maybe the test did uncover a possible learning disability. But, I'm finding the discrepancy in scores very hard to believe. Good luck to all of you in finding answers.

We have a large discrepancy. My child received a 139 on NNAT (99%) and 59% on CogAT. On the young side with a mid-summer birthday.
I was under the impression you needed to score high on only one of the tests to get into the AAP pool, but we haven't seen a letter. I'm wondering if her NNAT score wasn't accepted due to the much lower CogAt scores. Also wondering if we need further testing.
Any advice?

No, the benchmark for NNAT was 132 (I think) and 95% for the Fairfax CogAT (is that the one your kid took?) You would have received an "in pool" letter. You can parent refer if you want.

No. Benchmark for pool: 132 NNAT or 95% CoGat

we are at a school that sends only 8-10% to level 4 centers - admin is not supportive of them at all.

Have no idea. NNAT is obviously very high. GBRS will be a factor and you won't know what until after the file is sent.
Agree. It's like asking "SAT 2400, what's the chance get into Ivy League".
Now it's up to the GBRS and work samples, with some luck.

Have no idea. NNAT is obviously very high. GBRS will be a factor and you won't know what until after the file is sent.

My DC scored in the 92% on NNAT and 80 on CogAT. (88 verbal, 77 quant and 65 nonverbal) Was sick for CogAT, but cannot know for sure whether this was a factor. No prep for either test.

NNAT 139. CoGat 89%. Not prepped for either. August birthay (youngest in his class). In the pool. Surprised by relatively similar %s in Cogat sections, didn't expect much from verbal.
