I'm still not sure if they don't age adjust...I think the Composite score might be age-adjusted. Looking at my kid's scores, the percentages of the composite would make sense if they are age related. Does anyone else's kid have a composite score that is equal to the highest score battery score?

that means amongst 100 kids, only 5 will be in pool? My DS is strong in Verbal and not as good in quantitative and non-verbal. He can still get the in pool letter as composite score is 95%.

I'll bet the county simply imported all of the nationally scored CoGat scores (3 subscores plus composite) and determined the 95th percentile in the county from there. Not rocket science...and total BS that they can't provide a number score and not just the percentile.

Not sure why ppl got so hang up by the scores.
There is only one set of scores that's absolute: the raw scores. All the other scores, age normed or not, is optional. FCPS can very well decided to calculate the percentile rank based on the raw score and/or age, with the curve provided, since they are doing local scoring, not paying for the service.
C/P from CogAT author website about the scores:
CogAT reports separate scores for each battery (Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal) and a Composite. Scores are not reported for subtests within each battery.
Among the scores available for each battery are the raw score (the number of items marked correctly), standard age score, national age and grade percentile ranks, and age and grade stanines. A normal curve equivalent table is provided in the CogAT, Form 6, Norms Booklet. Local norms based on the standard age score are available from the Riverside Scoring Service®, which provides a wide range of scoring services for CogAT.
CogAT may also be scored locally by computer or by hand. Scoring key booklets are available for hand scoring each level. Levels A-H may be hand scored with either a scoring key booklet or an individual-level scoring mask. For local scoring, CogAT Levels K, 1, and 2 test booklets and Levels A-H answer sheets may be scanned with the appropriate equipment.

You will get a percentile... just not a standard age score... Verbal, non-verbal and composite. Here is what the website says:
2012-13 Benchmark Score for the 2nd Grade Screening Pool
The 2012-13 benchmark score for the 2nd grade screening pool is 132 on the First Grade NNAT or 95th percentile on the Second Grade Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Composite score. Please note the pool is only for 2nd grade students. All 2nd grade students will receive test scores from their local school. If your student is in the 2nd grade pool, you will be notified by the local school by the end of January. Students who are not in the pool may be referred for Level IV services by completing and submitting the Level IV Referral Form and optional materials to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher or principal at their local school no later than February 8, 2013.

CogAt is locally normed this year... that means they can't give you a standard age score (example: 132) You are being compared to all other 2nd grade students in FCPS. Also, my AART teacher told me that if you haven't heard, don't stress out, just complete the referral form and pull work samples that show advanced thinking. She also mentioned it doesn't matter if you get in throught the pool vs. referral. Just do the referral and relax ladies.
