Vienna is more like Rockville, with some of the region's worst traffic on Maple Avenue just as with Rockville Pike.

Kind of hard to get from Vienna to Oakton without geting on 123, whether you call it Maple Avenue in Vienna or Chain Bridge Road in Oakton. I honestly don't get people in Vienna congratulating themselves for completely avoiding Maple. For better or worse, it's the main drag.

Yes, the traffic on Maple is bad, but anyone who lives here has an alternate route--Vienna resident.

What kind of healthy takeouts does Vienna have that McLean doesn't? KFC? Popeyes? Vienna Inn? Outback? Foster's Grille? Anita's?

The main place that comes to my mind is Cenan's Bakery. Great place.

Not necessarily healthy, depending on what you order, but I would love to move Plaka Grill to McLean and leave Vienna with Skorpios and the Greek Grill.

KFC closed, I think. Healthy Takeouts: don't forget Amma. Not takeouts, but we have Bazin's and Alegria. And Pure Pasty (the only Pasty store in NoVA). Nielsons Custard.

Oh, and the Greek Grill is closed.

Rumor has it a Elevation Burger is coming to town.

Not a rumor: Elevation is almost ready to open near the Fresh Market.
Great takeout in Vienna: Whole Foods, Amma, Cenans, Italian Gourmet, SweetLeaf, Sweet Ginger, Nata. Man, I am hungry.

To where Oakton? Fair Lakes? Centreville? Chantilly?

If yes to those, I agree.

Reston. Reverse on the toll road ($5 per day), and would take more than 15 minutes each way

Not true! My husband works in Tysons and we looked at both Mclean and Vienna and our budget was 1.2-1.5 million, so decent options in both places. We chose Vienna for the community, the closer proximity to the now finished Target and MOM's, the trail, the walkability, the more "down to earth"ness about it.. pretty much we preferred the Vienna lifestyle.

Yes, really down to earth living in a $1.5 mil house.

Only in the DC area would a stay at home mom say 1.2-1.5 million with such humbleness

lol. I live in 22182, have never been told I do not live in Vienna, and would not take offense if they did. Why would I possibly care??? that is too funny.

You know, I stepped back and realized this was more something I came across on internet forums from people purporting to live in the Town of Vienna than in this weird other existence called "real life." Really, the worst thing I encounterd from people in Vienna in person was some folks - some of whom lived in the Town and others of whom did not - being snobby where Madison HS was concerned and putting down other schools. Most people we knew in "real life" Vienna were very nice.

Yes down to earth. We moved here from a lower COL area where colonials that are relatively updated are pretty much the standard. We bought what we are accustomed too, nothing crazy fancy like a 3 car garage, pool, sauna on a private gated drive (which is what you would get and more where we are from), just a newer colonial with updated living. And I fully realize that we are very fortunate to be able to live like this here.

That said, my kids go to public school, we don't have a nanny nor a housekeeper, don't drive fancy cars, don't buy our kids any fancy electronics, own one TV, one 5 yr old laptop and have an one original IPad 1 not 5 or 4 or whatever the newest one is. So yes I would say we are pretty down to earth even though we don't live in a rambler. Judgemental much? Must be from Mclean.

However, since there's no official "town of McLean," you don't have the sniping between town and county residents as to who lives in "real vs. faux" McLean the way that some town of Vienna residents sometimes go out of their way to exclude people who live outside the town limits but have Vienna mailing addresses. Apart from the traffic, that's probably the thing I miss the least about Vienna.

Don't kid yourself. There is a "real vs. faux" debate in mcLean. It's between the McLean folks and the 22043 (Falls Chruch part of McLean) folks.

The 22043 Falls Church part of McLean that associates with McLean pays the McLean tax.

The Vienna outside the town limits do not pay the town of Vienna tax.

Mclean mostly borders tysons so there is no advantage to vienna. We looked at vienna but it is farther out and has less commuting options but is cheaper. It comes down to price, cut the bull shit.

I'll respond, but only if you tell me first whether you're really a jerk or just pretending for fun.

I am being honest, the farther you go outside the beltway the less the housing costs.
