The point of the blame game is to try to prevent future tragedies. People try to blame the convenient culprit, guns. But if people took responsibility for themselves, their families, and their neighborhood, tragedies could be averted.
I know every one of my neighbors in my one block radius. Bet you anything not one of them is a terrorist. I can also tell you that none of my kids or neighbors kids will kill people. Why? Because I, and people in my family and neighborhood have awareness.
Nearly Every one of these recent tragedies could have been avoided, such as that batman killer guy, because the signs were there-people didnt act on the signs.
I believe a good approach would be to hold parents accountable up to a certain age. Remember that kid from bethesda who was making bombs in his garage or something? i seem to recall the parents were held accountable. (Though cant recall the details.). This is a good start. Would be more effective than gun control.
You're a dangerous moron who thinks he can read other's minds, that much is true. People are capable of almost anything. Germans in the 1930's knew their neighbors in a one block radius, too.

Anonymous wrote:Lanza's mother did NOT work at the school. At all. Here's a scenario: Lanza's mother might have been having an affair with a man who had a child at the school. The shooter went there with the intent to kill that child. There has to be some sort angle like this. Why would he drive to the school to just kill random kids? If he did, this is so much horrible in it's randomness. This was a rich divorcee. Who taught her boys to shoot assault weapons--there has to be more to this story.

This thread would make sense if she were alive.
She's dead.
Plus, we do not know the facts.
How was Aurora preventable? His parents lived in California. His therapist expressed concerned to the school, but they couldn't monitor him 24/7.
I would love to find ways to prevent these massacres, but I'm not finding anything constructive in the suggestion that we hold parents accountable. This happened around Columbine. Until parents can read their children's minds, they are at a disadvantage.
By banning assault weapons after the Gabrielle Giffords shooting?

When it was clear he was not in his right mind, DH and I snuck out all of his guns while he was sleeping. Why? Because we felt responsible. We still own those guns, stored responsibly. If I ever felt that I, DH or our sons were mentally unstable they would be gone in a heartbeat.
Thank you for posting this. My FIL has had several strokes, still has at least a .357 in his home, and sadly I had never given this any thought until these events. Spoke to my husband today and he and his firefighter BIL are going to make sure that all the ammunition is out of the guns and the home. FIL cannot drive anymore and cannot use a computer, so there is no chance of him obtaining any more.
