And, as for your curiosity as to "why 15:31 is throwing flames on a thread I hoped had died, that deserves to die!" -- it's because people like you keep directing posts to me. However, I'm not glued to this thread, nor am I a regular visitor to this website, and will only respond when/if I stumble across a post directed to me. So the response could come immediately or hours/days/weeks after the post(s) specifically aimed at me, but rest assured, if you throw flames at me, I'm going to throw them back at you. Childish, I know but that's the beauty of an anonymous post. And although I thought "liberal mom with 2 kids at Blair"'s name-calling was unnecessary and gratutitous, I'm certainly willing and fully capable of jumping down to that level of discourse and "being a total asshole" with the best of them.

But I have to say, IB is not be definition harder than doing 9-10 APs at Whitman or Churchill. There have been other threads on this. For one thing, kids take AP tests starting sophomore year, which is more pressure than tge IB test at the end of senior year when all the college decisions have been made.
But most of all, I'm curious why 15:31 is throwing flames on a thread I hoped had died, that deserves to die!

I have to disagree, PP. How much do you know about IB? It's very rigorous. Most 9th and 10th graders who take AP classes do it b/c they're "encouraged" to sign up. Most scores are abysmal, as they just don't have the abstract skills to be able to handle that level of critical thinking. (not all, as there are always exceptions)
IB is a two-year program that begins in grade 11. It very much like earning a liberal arts degree.
very different philosophies
So please don't make assumptions based on what you've heard. I'd suggest you talk to students in the program and to teachers trained in IB before you make false statements.
Aaccck. I want this thread to die down too. But this nonsense can't be left out there without some factual corrections. (Worse, I'm guessing you're IB mom with a bone and an attitude, given your completely unnecessarily nasty swipes about me knowing nothing, "making up assumptions" and "false statements" from thin air. Interacting with you sort of gives me the creeps, but that's neither here nor there.)
Please don't make your own false assumptions, that I know nothing about IB. We actually went to two area MoCo IB program open houses, and in the end turned them down. We know LOTS of kids in the RM program. Meanwhile, my kid has taken 5 AP classes so far, and has received 5's in the two for which DC has received scores (more AP scores due next week). It's a TON of work.
You are impugning AP students completely unfairly when you make statements in bold above, like, "they are just encouraged to sign up" and that they "end up with abysmal scores" because, you apparently think, AP kids are slackers or something. In fact, your statement that they "don't have the abstract skills to handle that level of critical thinking" actually undermines your whole argument that AP is "less" rigorous than IB.
BOTH IB and AP programs are rigorous. Your slap at AP students, and presumed sense of superiority about IB, makes you look unreasonable.

Yes! And you (and now me) are keeping it going. How absurd.

Anonymous wrote:Holy carp, why is this thread back like Chuckie? Out of curiosity I went to 16:11 and found this little screed about how it's somehow wrong to imply that Einstein et al are wrong choices.
"... the thread seemed to veer way off course when she seemed to reply or adopt comments which suggested otherwise (e.g., parents who send their children to Einstein, Kennedy, and Wheaton do so because they can't make a better/best choice). So PP, please pull your panties out your ass and stop fanning the flames that moved this thread off course."
Nice. But, wait for it ... you're back for a VBA about how you send your kids to the RM magnet?! I bet Blair mom is breathing a sigh of relief she doesn't have to interact with you! Now, can you let this thread die, which it was on the way to doing -- can you stop resurrecting ancient cat fights?

NP here. It's curious to me that you (and other like-minded PPs) responded to the PP you seem to be referring to; and so it appears to me that you rather than she is keeping this thread going. BTW, I'm accepting that you're correct that PP is the white woman -- as identified by a different PP -- that you think you know and have scolded through your posting. I checked out this particular thread because we are weighing whether moving would provide a better MCPS option for HS than we currently have. Although there are a couple of helpful posts, this thread is mostly strangers spewing insults and personal attacks at other strangers (or, in your case, an acquaintance/neighbor). No need to retort with the typical f*ck you, asshole, bitch/dick, etc. retort because rather than returning to this thread I'll be checking out specific schools' websites/listserves rather than returning here and so your post won't reach its intended target. But I know you won't be able resist because all anonymous posters look alike and you obviously don't know (and truly don't care) who you're "talking to." Wait a minute . . . I think I may know you: aren't you the person who always starts furiously fanning the flames just as the fire is dying while claiming to be putting it out? Yep -- I thought that was you.
NP out . . . forever!
