Huh? People actually BWI, "Thurgood Marshall"? No. We may know what you mean if you live around here but try telling relatives from out of state to fly in to Thurgood Marshall. They'll have no clue what you're talking about.

Definitely call the other airport "National" for political reasons. I hate it when I slip and accidentally call it Reagan.

So can I but the 12 minute car ride/30 minute metro ride to DCA makes me grateful for the fact that this old airport is way closer to an urban area than it should be. I always understood that Congress (lazy mofos) was to blame for that but I actually don't know. Does anyone know if that is true?

Small is what makes it better than Dulles. And most of it is nice and quite new.


The location makes it better than Dulles (for this gal). It takes me 10 minutes to get to DCA, vice 45+ to get to Dulles. Don't even want to think about flights that take off 2 hours after rush hour.

Reagan National or DCA. I grew up in Annapolis and hardly used it growing up, opting for BWI instead (which will always be BWI). We called it "The one in the city" or "the one near the city that is not Dulles".

Democrat. Although, I don't really know how that factors into what I call it. I feel that most people refer to airports in terms of location, hardly ever by the name that they are given afterwards. LaGuardia and JFK might be exceptions.

I'll bite -- I absolutely love Reagan. DH and I can watch videos of him all day long. Amazing president.

I call the airport National, out of habit and because everyone knows what you are talking about. I don't need to say an airports name as a political statement. And...I'm not into consumerism - especially when it costs taxpayer money. Wasted too much time and money to rename the airport, IMO. I also say BWI.

National and BWI because I moved here and flew out of National long before it got the "Reagan" added on. Never flew out of BWI when it was Thurgood Marshall.

I got my MBA at the U of MD satellite campus in the Reagan building. I call that the Reagan building because that's its name. I lean more Democratic and don't hate/dislike Reagan, but thought it was completely ridiculous to name the airport after him.

I've been here since 1980...

It's National, BWI, Cap Centre, MCI, Peoples, Hechts, Dart Drug, and the Cabin John Bridge on the Beltway.
