It's official. FCPS Staff has recommended that the Board approve Option B at the next School Board meeting on 3/29. Not a big surprise.

the meeting at kilmer and the survey do not make it clear if the responder lives in area A, B or currently attends LR.

It's not a "deal." It's an effort to deal with capacity issues at a number of schools in the area by starting out with a move involving two schools that are at the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of being over-enrolled and under-enrolled.

Agree with the other poster who suggested the views of the families within the Option A and B areas should be considered, as well as the views of current Lemon Road families. Isn't that what the meetings at Kilmer are designed to elicit?

We don't always know our neighbors very well. To some extent, assumptions about the boundary study area were based on FCPS's initial statements that it was a high ESOL/FRL area, which weren't accompanied by actual data. When you look at the actual data associated with the two options, it's clear that people don't have anything to worry about and that FCPS probably will go with Option B.

Maybe the county should survey they families living in the areas in Option A and Option B. Maybe one group would would prefer to move. Maybe not but it is worth asking each household.

My son attends freedom hill and we live in the boundary study area. My husband and I are BOTH attorneys & very active in the PTA. However, this does not sound like any group I want to be a part of. Your membership criteria seems a bit too selective for me. You could all benefit from a dose of diversity and some tolerance. Do you want to know people's religions too? What is next?

This disturbing series of postings reminds me of a passage I have heard many times through the years. Think about it. You may look up in the emergency room one day & find one of these kids about to save your life.

Option B seems to transfer more students over anyway leaving both schools at but not exceeding capacity levels. Makes sense to me.

Uh. Lemon Road is already a highly diverse school especially those children within boundary. Their newletters are written in two languages. I'm not sure what you are getting at. Whether the parents actively participate though is always an unknown. If you don't want to participate aren't you just contributing to the problem? There seems to be plenty of room for you to join in.

Or you could just get off your high horse and attend a meeting or two to introduce yourself to the Lemon Road parents. There's no reason this can't benefit both schools.

Just a thought.

Was not at public meeting, but FCPS has now posted two options for discussion at the meetings:

http://www.fcps.edu/fts/planning/freedomlemon/

Presumably FCPS Staff is hoping Lemon Road community will support Option B, which doesn't impact the current demographics at Lemon Road as much as Option A.

Did anyone go to the public meetings?
