I would not live anywhere in the Deep South or Texas (maybe Austin but the weather is ick). I'd also never move back to the "rust belt" (e.g. Ohio, Michigan).

FWIW, Harris (Houston), Dallas, Bexar (San Antonio), Travis (Austin) and El Paso all voted for Obama.

Even Fort Bend (home of Sugar Land, which I always equated with Stepford) only went for McCain 50-48.

We would not move to NYC, Atlanta, LA, Phoenix, or anywhere in Texas.

Aww, all the Texas bashing...I lived in San Antonio and Dallas for a couple years when I was a kid so don't remember much, but lived in the Houston area for 13 plus years and love it. I know there is this stereotype that there are all Christian, right wing racists here, but I see Houston as an international city compared to other Southern cities definitely. I am a moderate, non-native Muslim and the only time I felt out of place was when living in a small town for three years and my family being the only Muslim kids in school. There's a lot of diversity here, an absolutely affordable cost of living, And wonderful places to visit. Yes, I am biased

earthquakes like we had in august happen once every hundred years around here. Tornadoes in this area are rarely as scary as the ones that hit Alabama and Joplin earlier this year. And we have never taken a direct hit from a hurricane.

I'm with you on the snow, but it isn't always like 2 years ago. There have been plenty of years when we've gotten a few inches all winter.

Our weather and chance of devastating natural disaster is so moderate in comparison. I feel like we have a fairly moderate climate - I like having all 4 seasons.

Now, if you want to talk about our chance of terrorist attack, that makes more sense to me.

NP. I would say hell no to the city of Detroit, however the suburbs are nice from what I hear.

Detroit has super cheap direct flights to most places via Delta/NW (plus if you need to visit family on both coasts).

I loved living in Ann Arbor and it is commutable to Detroit.
