If you're looking for delivery or take out Pete's Apizza is great (Columbia Heights and somewhere up Wisc. Ave.).

For eat-in we like Comet (on Conn. Ave. - just featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives if you watch that show) and Red Rocks (Columbia Heights).

So neither of these are NY style but I'm gonna give a shout-out anyway:

1. Washington Deli, corner of 20th & I, does Rhode Island style with a thick puffy crust. One of the few places downtown that do pizza by the slice.

2. Pi. Their thin crust IS close to NY style, and they also do a deep dish which is St. Louis style (made with cornmeal crust).

Grimaldi's!!!!!!!!!! I lived in Hoboken for a few years and ate there as much as possible. Amazing. Best ever imho.

Can't stand Ledo's sauce, or the crust for that matter

This is old school DC area pizza. You cannot live here and not eat it at least once in a while.

Blech. You must be kidding. It's got to be a nostalgia thing cause it's surely not the quality of the ingredients or the taste. Again, I repeat, blech.

Haven Pizzeria on Wisconsin in Bethesda is excellent.

A few New Haven style places have opened up in the area lately. Any recommendations?

Potomac Pizza is the worst. It can't be NY Style pizza if you use a conveyor belt oven.

Mama Lucia is the closest we have found. It has a real pizza oven.

Hate Potomac pizza-love Vince and Dominick's behind Montgomery Mall in Bethesda-a little pricey and I'm not sure you would call it NY style, but it sure is good-kids love it to. Order by the slice if you're eating there-wait til you see the size of it!

Corner Slice and Potomac Pizza have the closest thing to NJ shopping mall pizza you're gonna find around here. If that's not good enough for you, you're gonna have to crank the Springsteen and head up the turnpike.

Not sure if it has already been mentioned but Corner Slice in Bethesda. Very limited seating, but they do deliver. Not open on Sundays and closes at 8:00 on the weekdays.

My New York/New Jersey pizza-loving and pizza-snob husband likes it. And he is picky. Very.
