My son's name is Bishop - I was watching a B-rated horror movie when I was pregnant and Bishop was the name of the antagonist. I loved it the second I heard it. It didn't have religious connotations at all to me or any of our friends. A lot of people thought of the chess piece and it was also a job in a MMO we played at the time. I often joke he either needs to be a rock star or a freelance exorcist (think Constantine or the Winchesters) otherwise he's misusing his name. He's in first grade right now and has never been bullied for it - in fact a LOT of people, old and young, love his name.

As weird a name as it is, it's actually not bad.

Wouldn't "The Bishop" be better than just "Bishop"?

STOP STOP STOP

This thread is originally from 2011 and was revived by some dimwit who wanted to talk about the name again, awful as it is.

Someone else did go with Bishop.

This is OP, and this is hilarious. I forgot about this post. "Bishop" is 4 years old, and no, we did not name him that! You guys crack me up!

I love it! It's different, but not weird. And no, he will not be made fun of. Tons of kids have different names these day.

Bishop is better than Saint.

It's classic, simple to spell, interesting and uncommon.

Are people still religious these days? Geesh That doesn't mean squat to anyone born after the 1980s anyhow.

You sound very simple.

It can't be both classic and uncommon.

Oh, your kid....

Sure it can. Alistair and Hugh are examples of names that are classic and uncommon.

Bishop is, however, not a classic name.
