Thanks in advance.
are there any bob jones-certified testers for Iowa algebra aptitude test in the NoVa area? are there any enrichment-school-administered iowa tests around here?
IAAT(IOWA algebra aptitude test) administered in FCPS/LCPS/PWCS and other counties in NOVA for placing students in advanced math track.
FCPS: 6th grade students take the test in January and they take 7th grade SOL
They need to get a pass advanced score on SOL( > 500) and > 92 percentile on iAAT( may be >= 92)
The combination of these determine their algebra 1 placement in 7th grade
NOTE: Student need to be in AAP Center based or school based program
[u]LCPS: students take it in 5th grade which is combined with SOL score to be placed in advanced math in 6th grade which leads to algebra 1 placement in 7th grade
PWCS: students in 5th grade who get a pass advanced > 525 on SOL are invited to take IAAT test.
There is sliding scale county follows which considers SOL score and IAAT score to place them in Math 7 or Math 7 extended in 6th grade.
Math 7 extended students will take algebra 1 in Grade 7

How is FCPS honor Algebra 1 class compared with the fast-paced text-based Art of Problem Solving Intro to Algebra?
Are the neighboring county LCPS & PWCS cutoff IAAT score similar to FCPS 91 percentile?

cut-off is 91%

Anonymous wrote:It is a very unforgiving class. A quiz each day, a test each week, cumulative tests each quarter. Homework doesn't count and the grade is based entirely on the test grades.
This must vary a lot. My DD is a 7th grader in Algebra 1 Honors this year and her class is not like this. Weekly quizzes, tests at end of each unit, and homework does count in her grade. Her work is very reasonable and she has no issues with it. I think her Iowa was 91st percentile and 510 Pass Advanced on the Grade 7 SOL. But math has always been her strongest subject and she's not such a great standardized test taker.
Anonymous wrote:My daughter took iowa test and scored 90% is it possible to get algebra 1 honors thru the teacher recommendation?
She was not in level 4 aap her school teachers picked and coached few kids and made them take the test.
