I admit that I'm pretty paranoid in general but I don't even think I'd be comfortable with a service specifically for children that had screened drivers. Just the thought of my kid in the car alone with someone gives me the willies.

If you need a driver, I am a college student at American University looking for a driving job and would not mind picking up kids and bringing them to after school activities. Thank you! That is kind. While I really can't help with the baby, why don't you (and anyone else similarly inclined), call the parents of a classmate with two working parents and offer this? Make a new friend for life and teach your own child a life lesson about mutual support and cooperation.

I posted last year but we used Barwood Cab on the days we weren't able to drive. We had an account so no cash was required. They have a sedan service now as well but we just used the taxi service. My DC used this in 9th and 10th grade.

We just moved from Manhattan and it is pretty common for the kids to have drivers. The younger kids would have a nanny and a driver.

Shit! I thought I was a parent, guess I was wrong.

-- a so-called "Mom" who has sent her kid to school/camp/sports on foot, in carpools, on the school bus and even (gasp!) on the metro over the years, and who likes to go out to dinner.

LIimos are less expensive than taxis in the morning and afternoon because they are in very low demand during those time periods. It's significantly less expensive to send 6-8 kids together in a limo with a driver than in a van or small school bus. In fact , I knew a set of families who did this who spent less on transportation tan other who used an optional bus service to go approximately the same distance. Maybe these limo kids' parents are simply more open-minded and aren't going to say no to an out-of-the-box idea that works well and is efficient. Oh, but if we acknowledged that this was a good idea then we couldn't all hang around complaining about wealthy people.

Yup - this was always funny, and disturbing to see the special little snowflakes at the egalitarian, first-names-only private school pull up the "farm" road in the white stretch limo every morning, while the financial aid kids had already been there for 15 minutes. Because it's "cheaper" for their high-status parents, who might otherwise miss their spa appointments or have to move the tennis lessons.
