Harsh one: Equating a cotillion with Nazi youth is ridiculous. Go, don't go, who cares? These kinds of organizations have always existed, and I don't see why you're getting so worked up about it. And, because I see this so much on this board, I've gotta point out that it's "bated breath", not "baited breath."

Seems to me that all we "know" is that (1) of the people who send their kids, some like it and some don't, with several thinking snobbiness is a factor, and that (2) it's invite only, which some people seem highly offended by and others do not seem to read all that much into. I think it's nice that someone who plans to attend offered to give us some additional first-hand thoughts. No need to be rude about it.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your cotillion thread, I was just kidding about the Zumbatillion...you gotta have a sense of humor sometimes. But the more I think of it, the more I like the idea! Perhaps I'll make that my fall project. And no, I wouldn't exclude anyone...not my style, nor is it Zumba's.

Just like everything else if this were organized it probably would also become exclusive vs. inclusive.

Zmom - are you serious? You should do it! I think it's a great idea and would much rather have my kids go to an event like this than some cold hearted cotillion.

Seriously, you are bothered so much by this, do something about it! Don't just complain on the board. Call the local TV station and have them look into it. Or write an Op-Ed. Call the original author of the piece in the Washingtonian magazine and see if she has any additional info or can help. There are so many things you can do! I posted earlier in this thread about calling the local TV station but no one has seemed to acknowledge it. I've done it for things that I felt were wrong and IT WORKS. I'm not into the whole Cotillon/Simpson thing but have been reading out of sheer curiosity, so I would not be an appropriate person to start the process. But someone here who is truly upset that their child isn't included really should try to do something aside from vent on the board. It doesn't take long to contact the news station (you can even do it online) or to send an email over to the author of the Washingtonian piece. CHANGE CAN HAPPEN.
