Meren is a master on bloat and inefficiency. Her mess that survived Thru/Brac includes Flint Hill Island/Oakton ES and the Madison/Langley/Marshall feeds in that area. Yes we are paying to bus Oakton ES that live near Hughes/Sunrise Valley to Jackson for AAP. How much does Meren's bus ratmaze cost to ship any students who had ES AAP at Sunrise Valley to Jackson for MS?
That FX budget line item on crossing guards is 842k [less than 1 million]. https://wjla.com/news/local/fairfax-county-budget-deficit-crossing-guards-high-school-safety-cost-school-board-fcpd-elementary-middle-neighboring-jurisdiction-bust-cross-walks-adults-protection-approval-parents-students
There are 2 elementary school magnets and the total transportation cost for that on the FY2026 program budget was 645k Meren's Hunters Woods has 263 students with transportation transferring in. Baileys had 12 but 155 immersion. Baileys upper had <10 and 129 immersion. Are we sticking them on the magnet bus? So for maximum 21 or 22 kids out on total for all Baileys. I guess Meren is getting at least 500k on buses alone for Hunters Woods magnet.
Staff costs 1.3m for the 2 magnets. Baileys no longer functions as a magnet so it's just lingering added staff for just one of many needy sites. All that money would pay for crossing guards and some title 1 school's field trips.

I cannot imagine why she chose to air this dirty laundry. (It invites speculation about what she chooses to do in her personal life!) Poor judgement.
Posting the screenshots was crass.
No, it’s embarassing for the misogynist that is McKay. Do you hate women too?

The only county supervisor who pushes back is Herrity. He is an island.
So many County residents willingly roll with the tax increases. It’s out of control
He's an island because he's a Republican. This is why purple areas tend to be the best to live in - when one party (either one!) controls too long with no pushback, bad patterns get entrenched. This is why Rudy Guiliani, before he became a laughingstock, was actually a decent mayor. He came in and undid entrenched bad habits by coming from the other party.
If our whole county government was Republican a lone Dem would look smart too.
Herrity is an island in a sea of insanity. Wish he could replace mckay. He is the only one with a working brain.
Herrity pushed the sole source metro funding for the above ground verses the tunnel. He was the biggest opponent to the tunnel. He doesnt have good ideas. He just knows how to point out bad ones.
Herrity has an easy job being the only R on thr board. He sits back and complains. He does no work and has no ideas.
Melanie is wrong about the budget and wrong to constantly attack the biggest funder of fcps. Especially when they again increased the transfer to schools even though enrollment has declined. If she wants something funded, she should move things around in the FCPS budget to get them. FCPS could use its money to hire HS crossing guards from the vendor.
And McKay should resign. His misogyny and language is unacceptable.
I don't believe this is true, however, no ideas is better than crazy leftist ideas.

I would have thought at least Rashna would say something but she hasn't. I guess she didn't like Meren either.

But we don’t need high school crossing guards. Fairfax is the only nearby jurisdiction that had them. Budget responses showed there were not accidents in those areas. Of course there might be more if the guards are removed but we don’t know.

I do wish she had handled this differently and with dignity. A public Facebook post is messy.
You wish SHE had handled it differently? GtFOH. She handled it appropriately and shed slight on his sexist comment. He's a public servant and so it should have been put out there for all to see.
His response was out of line. Meren has a tendency to post bad information and throw people under the bus in her posts, it is something that you get used to seeing if your follow her newsletter and facebook feed. There is a more professional way to handle her facebook posts, he was wrong to call her a bimbo. She is frustrating to read and I can only imagine how hard she is to work with. Still shouldn't have called her a bimbo.
I dislike McKay very much. Having said that, he is technologically inept as well as idiotic. Having said that, he should have just called her an A##hole..way less controversial than bimbo and we wouldn't be discussing this.
That's the point. He didn't say a##hole. Instead he chose an insanely old fashioned sexist term last heard in teen 80's movies. It's so dumb and specific that you know he is using that term all the time behind closed doors, to his male colleagues. I'm not outraged, I'm disappointed and I hope the fairfax dems condemn this behavior publicly.
They did condemn it but so what? He won't face any consequences so the lesson here is that you can be a sexist, threatening a**hole and you'll have to say you are sorry. Dems won't put pressure on him to resign or anything else and Fairfax voters will see the D next to his name and vote him in again.
