I absolutely do not want my 7th grade girl on a bus with 12th grade men. Absolutely NOT.
That won’t be happening, this is only temporary while there are only 9th and 10th graders.

So as some of you may know depending on if she was in the meetings, there is a woman named Julie Fowler who is heavily involved in the planning process for Skyview.
I called her office yesterday and her secretary picked up asking about modifications, and they said the pool is most likely being kept.

For the first year it is only 9th and 10th
And even if not, that sounds like a you problem. Its very normal to have 7th-12th graders on the same bus.
If you don't like it, though, you are free to do kiss and ride!

Yes, they are going to release the bell schedule next month at the Skyview meeting that they have for students and parents. But they are modifying the schedule to make sure that kids can get to the schools for sports practice.
I literally said this earlier. The plan is for students to dismiss at 2:25.

You won’t have that option. The only school where there has been a choice is Skyview. The recent boundary changes did not give the students a choice to stay at their HS unless they were rising Seniors.
This is not true. All current HS students affected by the recent boundary changes are grandfathered with transportation. Some students in middle and elementary school also have the option to stay at their current schools but FCPS isn’t providing transportation.
We were told by FCPS when asked that this isn't necessarily true. They haven't voted on the transportation part, and there is conversation about changing the Board Policy about allowing existing students to stay.
They voted on the transportation part on February 26th. Grandfathered high schoolers are to receive transportation.
If somehow they were to renege on this, they'd have a riot on their hands. Unlike the Skyview decisions, these changes go into effect this fall.

That's great. And it's just for one year, right? I assume they will have to share a stadium with another high school for a while? I know of high schools where I grew up that had to do that.

This is NOT correct. All HS students (i.e., rising 10th-12th students) were permitted to remain at their current HS in the comprehensive boundary review per policy 8130.

Is that what they decided? For a long time it was only rising Seniors and then I thought I saw maybe Juniors and Seniors but that 9th and 10th graders would be moving. A lot of the argument seemed to revolve around transportation and if kids who chose to stay at their school then their parents had to provide transportation to the school.
I see the website says 10th-12th can grandfather in but I recall them saying something weird at the meeting. Maybe someone else heard more clearly what was said and can confirm.

If you are that close, you or your spouse should just drop the kid off.
How about the afternoon? School ends at 2:45 and we're both at work.
It just seems that their priorities are misplaced. The base schools will have lots of juniors and seniors, as well as younger students who have stayed because they'd like to participate in sports or some other after-school activity. It's a group that is less likely to ride the bus home, because they're driving themselves and/or remaining at school after the buses leave. Meanwhile Skyview will be limited to freshmen and sophomores who won't be driving or playing sports.
What do you want? Buses dedicated to Skyview driving all over Fairfax to pick up Skyview only students? There aren't enough buses or drivers, and Larla would have a two hour bus ride with such long routes.
How about having the buses that are already coming from base schools all over Fairfax (and likely aren't full) stop within the Skyview boundary and pick up some kids who live there?
You want for instance, a bus going to Oakton to pick up Oakton kids, then pick up Skyview kids, drop off the Skyview kids, and then go to Oakton? That's your suggestion?
No, that's basically the opposite of what I meant. There are kids whose base school is Oakton who have opted in to Skyview. They will be taking one bus from their home to Oakton, and a second bus from Oakton to Skyview. That second bus will pass right through neighborhoods within the Skyview boundary on its way to Skyview. Why not take 10 seconds to pick up a few kids at the entrance to that neighborhood?

I think the other thread got locked because this one was already to three page before I reported it.
the secondary schools already do this so it is very much a possibility and it would make sense in terms of bussing. My understanding is that the MS parents like it because it means that the MS kids have a later start time since school shares a bell schedule with the HS.
