So mean, and sadly, I 100% agree with you. I find people in parts of Alexandria to be tolerable, but the rest of NOVA is not for me. Arlington and McLean folks are insufferable and are somehow even more obnoxious with their independent school humble brags than many others. Though Potomac, MD folks are similar....maybe the word Potomac brings out the crazy LOL

You forgot to mention The Real Housewives of Potomac (who live scattered about Virginia and Maryland... not even specifically the DMV). I think you may be onto something 🤣
All private school moms
Disagree, but I could see how a Potomac mom would think that...
You didn’t actually watch it, did you?

I don't have any idea how my response would imply that, but I can see how this thread leads to some jumping to defense...

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:OP I'm a Potomac parent, and I have to say I've found the parents to be a down to earth, welcoming group. It doesn't sound like they are actually bothering or interacting with you, so maybe you could just try not to eavesdrop and ignore them? I admit I'm guilty of wearing Potomac gear on occasion if any of my kids have a sports or robotics or debate competition that day, but I definitely don't mean to be offensive. Instead, I am happy that my kids are proud of their school and the effort they're putting in at interscholastic things, so I'd like to support them. It never crossed my mind that it would irritate someone while I'm out running errands.
I can't say it sounds like you will be missed by not applying. I'd also guess it's much more of an upbeat and supportive place than you would be happy at.
You ended your sentence with a preposition.

But really it’s the constantly talking about Potomac - like I said it has happened many times that I’m across the playground or on the other side of a restaurant and I hear Potomac Potomac Potomac.
I know some very nice down to earth Potomac parents who don’t do this but there seems to be a sizable number who do and they are annoying.
Now let’s let this thread die so it doesn’t get meaner! I’ve made my point and so have the defenders.
My kids were at other schools in DC and I am sure I talked about their school in every conversation while I was in the thick of it. It was our whole world at that time.

Potomac grabs Fairfax, Arlington and some of DC and MD. SSSAS gets southern Maryland and down 95 as well as lots of Alexandria. Flint Hill takes Fairfax and lots of Loudoun. If another school like little Langley added a high school, it would be full in half a second. Potomac was smart to add a high school.
This.
Northern Virginia has a dearth of good independent schools. And those who attend those (non-Catholic) schools are insufferable with big fish, small pond complex. Which is why we make the commute to DC (and will move).
