Honestly people, if you’re really so unhappy just move on. Is the club perfect? No. But they do so much very well considering the size of the organization. We have had a great experience, more changes with practice schedules this year but we asked about them and received an honest update about some issues. DS loves the team and the coaches, we have enjoyed the club and the leadership. Having seen elsewhere, Potomac is doing a great job!

PP clearly never spoken with any of the group KL gave up last year then, as this group is in agreement that never realised how bad his behaviour was until came away from it. He’s also lost a lot of players from his older team and had very big arguments. PP accurate about ego and lack of maturity, he always bad talking about people.

Potomac replaced the coach for next year although it was his first year with the group. We play at a different club, but heard that the boys and families don’t like the coach at all

KL is an emotionally immature man with a huge ego and an explosive temper. He is verbally abusive to the children he is supposed to be teaching and guiding.

My son is playing for KL currently and every player and family on his team adore him. He has an individual relationship with each kid, he sets high expectations gives the kids freedom and holds them to those expectations. I’ve had parents in the club tell me how much they wish KL still coached their kids or hope he does in the future, he is a great example and mentor for the children and is coaching at an extremely high level.

Another weekend and another example of KL abbusing refirre and name calling and arguing with his players. If his players received as many cards as he does I wonder if the club would. dismiss them.

KL does get his kids to compete and play hard but it’s borderline abbusive. Some kids respond well.

This has not been our experience. KL is egotistical and intense, but he has not done anything even close to abusive. The teams he coaches are playing at a very high level and are for the kids who want to push their soccer skills as hard as they can. They want a more intense environment like you would get at a European academy. If anything, KL's problem is that he is too easy on the kids who don't take it seriously enough.

Everyone has their own perspective on all of this of course. We have been very happy at Potomac for the last 4 years, and see continued growth and improvement in the club. In terms of individual coaches it is hard to compare. We have found MR to be kind and patient. In contrast KL to be harsh and egotistical. Neither of them are fantastic coaches, but both are competent. We have also had 1 at Bethesda previously, and didn’t find the level of coaching any better there. Just find the right personality fit for your DS or DD.

what criteria have you used?

MR is calm, allows players to problem solve in games and dosent over coach/joystick.

MR coaches to win but also understands the importance of learning through mistakes and dosent berate.

He focuses on technique drills in practice combined with game speed/competative/ possession based drills that combines technique and decision making.

Most importantly hes been with the club for over a decade and is invested in the club and player's development.

MR and KL are the strongest coaches in the u12 and under divisions.

KL is in a different league. MR has no business coaching the younger age groups and yes, I have heard this from both PSA boys' and girls' parents who have one kid at PSA with MR (P1) and one at a different club such as Bethesda or a VA club. I am so sorry for you and your child if you think MR is a competent coach or a good person. Given the state of youth soccer in the DMV, it would be ok if he was one or the other, but he is neither.

KL is known to be the best coach in the whole club so a comparison to him is harsh. That said , MR is less intense but is good at developing in ulittles. I would def agree with others that your opinion is not common amongst the PSA families.

I can tell you myself being a Potomac parent with one at Potomac and one at another club, MR seems to be widely liked and highly regarded. I’ve never heard a bad word against him until this silly and needlessly negative anonymous pot. In the world of soccer, which can be highly fraught with big feelings, that’s saying a lot. Seems like a nice even keeled dude.

What?
He doesn’t seem to be a bad person but it’s difficult to train 25 kids by yourself.

I took my DS to a u8 practice with 80 kids and one coach at another club. Kids that want to learn will.
