Lebanon is the size of Connecticut. If Israeli settlers start setting in southern Lebanon, it’s over for their country
The only thing that’s stopped the Israelis from taking Lebanon is Hezbollah which is not funded by Lebanon but by Iran. This is why they need both taken out together (hezbollah, Iran)

The Israeli military also appears to be engaged in a campaign to ethnically cleanse southern Lebanon of its Shia residents. Around three weeks ago, Israeli military officials called the heads of a cluster of majority Christian villages in southeastern Lebanon and ordered them to force out any “displaced people” that had taken refuge there, according to a municipal official in one of the villages, who spoke to Drop Site on condition of anonymity. “Displaced people” was a thinly-veiled reference to Shia residents who had been forced to flee nearby towns like Khiam.
Why the focus on Shia? They are clearing EVERYONE out of southern Lebanon, not just Shia - to create a buffer zone to the Litani river. Their rationale being, Hezbollah has launched thousands of rockets from southern Lebanon and this takes away their range and capabilities. The Lebanese have known this for decades but have been unwilling / unable to do anything about it.

We need to save the Lebanese
It is imperative
The Lebanese can save themselves by shutting down Hezbollah and other Iranian proxies.
Dear DP,
There would be no Hezbollah if Israel had not pushed out Palestinians from their homes in the Nakba. If Israel was sincere about wanting the Lebanese to “shut down” Hezbollah, they would be working cooperatively and supply the Lebanese government to do so. Killing and maiming non Lebanese just serves to help with Hezbollah recruitment.
DP.
Hezbollah was a choice. It was not the only choice that Palestine had before them, and Israel did not force Hezbollah into being. Hezbollah also didn't form because of the Nakba, it came into being much much later, in the 1980s in response to Israel's 1982 Beqaa incursion into southern Lebanon, it was primarily founded and built up by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. They also grew out of Lebanon's civil war.
How has the Hezbollah strategy worked out for Palestinians? Not terribly well.
Was that their only option? No. It was one of the most radical and destructive choices they could have made. But Iran gave Hezbollah the window dressing of morality by funding schools, hospitals and social services when the Lebanese government neglected them, and by having its senior Shia clerics make arguments that peace is impossible and to frame Hezbollah's violence and militancy as a moral and righteous jihad and tell Shia that they had a duty to take up arms, and that those who die fighting would be righteous martyrs.
