Yeah I don’t get this either. The first thing she said was that she was supposed to get there on “Friday night”. There was no hurry since the real event was in Saturday night. But then she leaves before lunch time on Friday for a short trip there??

It sounds like she got the garage code and then decided that she could snoop for a couple of hours. It’s the only possible explanation for deliberately arriving so early without so much as a text when she already knew that nobody would be home.

I think it’s very rude that you didn’t tell her you were early. Were you unable to text her?

As a MIL myself, I would have reached out to your son and DIL to let them know of your early arrival. I would have stopped somewhere for coffee and texted to see if there was anything I could pick up for the weekend. When you are given a time, respect it.

At the very least, expect the garage code to be changed.

At the most, which your rude and entitled, boorish, complaining, and lack of boundaries behavior deserves....I hope you enjoyed the musical. I doubt you will be invited again

I can explain it very easily. You were not “invited”. Not at that time. Not the day before. Or the day after. Or at 9am that morning. You were invited to arrive between 4 and 430.

She was obviously shocked to see you and figuring out how she can get her code back from you without you being offended.

They gave you the garage code in case they were running late, not so you could arrive hours early and make yourself at home in their house.

OP did you expect to hit two hours of traffic? Your drive was a few hours long. Why wouldn't you let your adult kids know you were arriving early??
