Yikes.
They should have been prepping for this when they issued ordered/authorized departures for family members and non-essential personnel drawdown.
The fact that this is quickly spiraling into a regional conflict is going to make departing really difficult, if not impossible.
They didn't issue authorized or ordered departure for family members and non essential personnel in most of these countries until yesterday or so (the days are blurring together), it was certainly after events had begun.
Americans in Iran were told to leave as early as Jan. 13.

You couldn't see things were heating up? If you follow the Kardashians all day and ignore real life, oh well.
Cornyn didn't even know that they were going to bomb, so just stop there.

Just a bit ago on Capitol Hill, before Rubio went in to brief senators, he announced that USG will be evacuating Americans in the region, that they should try to drive to the closest airport, even if it is in a neighboring country, that they should enroll in the STEP program, etc. I called the State Department number again and it is the same recording - "please do not rely on the USG for assisted departure or evacuation at this time blah blah blah."
This is an ef up of epic proportions. Heads would roll for this, not just one.
They should take a bus to Egypt. These people had a month to leave yet they chose to stay.

This list does not include many of the countries where the airports are now closed.
Do better when stumping for MAGA.
JFC. Use your common sense. Do you have any?

Funny that you conveniently left this part out:
"He paid for the jet, meaning the group managed to escape the Middle East without the help of officials."

Did you read that entire OP? Rubio says one thing but if you call the number, you are told that the USG has no plans to evacuate citizens and that you are on your own. On your own!
The State Department and the rest of the USG were beyond lackadaisical. They clearly had NO plan if the bombing went beyond 24 hours. We are now in day 4!
It must hurt to believe you’re this right. Especially based on a post here.
I spent 20 years working on international issues. Many friends who are at State. Know folks who've handled evacs from Saigon onwards. I got up this AM and tried to land one way flights from six different airports in the region to DC - nada. I've called the State Department line every hour till 5 pm.
So my beliefs are grounded in decades of expertise, not someone who clearly has no idea how some Asian and most European nations handle such a situation. And the United States until Saturday. Let's say, for your sake, that there had been an attack on US installations in the region and we responded. The State Department would've begun planning on a classified basis until it was a go, then this number, the website, the embassies and consuls in the region would've flipped to "go" mode. That is not what happened here. At all.
There is a task force in place.
have a friend at state - announced only today, four days into the conflict and five days after Trump decided to bomb Iran.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Sorry to say, I have heard very little about a task force that typically would run these things.
Are you someone that would typically be briefed on that?

Very true, except that when people reach out there’s either no information or they’re told to get out however they can. Meanwhile all our ex-allies are chartering planes and providing guidance to their trapped citizens. And still, the raping asshat continues to insult and bully the leaders of those countries.
There's no money to be made in evacuating civilians. MAGA governance is all about showing empty agency pockets because it's all been grifted away.
