Actually, I live about 300 feet from a metro station, and the noise is nonexistent. Metro trains are not loud at all; I don't hear anything. Try it yourself; walk a few hundred feet away from one of the above-ground stations, and you'll hear nothing. And it's beyond wonderful to have such an easy commute. There's a reason it's so desirable to be close to a metro station.
