A mistake? MOCO is in gold, so it should be 9th.

I agree this just seems like a mistake. With 16 teams in gold and no additional matches to further refine the finish order, all the teams that lost the first match in the gold bracket should be tied for 9th. All the other teams that lost that first match are listed as 9th.

If your DD is on the MOCO team, perhaps politely suggest to the coach/club director that they contact NEQ and look into getting it fixed. Having a better finishing place could impact AES/USAV ranking and seeding at future tournaments.

I don't understand why they give medals to those winning the bronze bracket...

We never got medals for winning a bronze bracket. It does feel ridiculous though, but we live in a world where everyone gets a participation trophy.

My DD was hoping that they would lose a challenge that would decide whether they go in the Gold or the Silver bracket. Losing that challenge meant that they would have a better chance to play multiple games and eventually win the Silver bracket. But they won the challenge, went into the Gold bracket, where they were eliminated after their first game. In an alternate universe, they lost the challenge, won the Silver bracket and got back home with medals. What a dumb system!

Paramount 17s got an Open bid with a 3rd place finish. I think Paramount 16s just missed an open bid - the Big South results in SportWrench show them as coming in 6th and show 2 teams that finished higher already having open bids. The Big South web page showed 3 bids available in 17 Open https://www.bigsouth.us/qualifier-information. If that’s correct, then bids would have rolled down to 5th place. But if Big South had one of the extra USAV provisional bids or their previously earned bids were not up to date, then Paramount 16s would have an open bid. Anyone know for sure?

They had to play an extra game to determine the 5th and 6th places. That tells me only the 5th-place team got the bid.
